Date Posted: 20/02/14
Throughout history there have been many stories about the city of London, including the historical, fictional and mythical. Now is your chance to see some of these stories represented through art at the new Serco Prize for Illustration 2014 exhibition at the London Transport Museum.
Running until April 6th, the entries are all based around the theme of ‘London Stories’ and feature illustrations which visually capture a well-known or obscure London narrative.
The display comprises over 50 works of art, which celebrate the vibrancy and multiple layers of London, including whimsical characters, urban myths, city animals and historical events.
This year’s pieces include Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show of 1887, the ravens and white bear of the Tower of London, ghost buses and an escaped monkey jazz band.
Other entries feature Tin Pan Alley, as well as literary and musical references such as Mary Poppins, The Picture of Dorian Gray and Sweeney Todd.
Visit the London Transport Museum on a hotel break to the capital and spend time looking around nearby Covent Garden.
