Date Posted: 13/01/15
Moscow City Ballet will bring the enchanting story of The Nutcracker to Dublin at the end of January, with a four-day stint booked in at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre that will see fans of the prestigious company will be fighting for tickets.
The story is a classic of the genre and widely considered one of the best ballets for newcomers to get engaged in the art form, with Tchaikovsky's instantly recognisable score certainly being a highlight.
Featuring a tale of Christmas cheer in which a magical wooden nutcracker in the shape of a little man takes a young girl to the beautiful Land of the Sweets ruled by the Sugar Plum Fairy, it's something that even the children will enjoy.
Parents should also bear in mind that, at only 85 minutes long, The Nutcracker is much shorter than Swan Lake or The Sleeping Beauty, making it much more palatable for a younger audience.
With the dancing in the capable hands of the Moscow City Ballet company, you can count on marvelling at the perfection of the corps de ballet, as well as the superb dexterity, grace and vitality of the principal dancers from this young and talented cast.
Recognisable songs include the gorgeous Petite Ouverture, the Entrée de Drosselmeyer and of course the unmistakable Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, an ingenious tune that has worked its way into the general public consciousness thanks to years of parody.
Tickets are available for the five performances set to take place over four days, with evening shows due to take place from January 28th until the 31st with an additional matinee at 2:30pm on the Saturday.
