Scotland celebrates stories
Date Posted: 30/09/14
Once upon a time, Scotland decided that the art of storytelling deserved celebrating. And nowhere was this more true than in the stunning streets of the capital Edinburgh, which is set to showcase a most invigorating programme of things dedicated to the art of telling a story.
Although the specifics are being kept closely under wraps in order to preserve the surprise - a hallmark of any good tale - we can reveal that the dates for this year's event will be from October 24th until November 2nd.
The theme is being kept fairly loose, with participants encouraged to base their stories around the idea of 'Once Upon A Place'.
Throughout the ten-day extravaganza, adults and children alike will find opportunities to explore the past, present and future, and the relationships our memories and stories have to where we are and have been.
All the more exciting is the fact that Edinburgh has thrived as a literary hub for centuries, playing host to the likes of Robert Louis Stevenson and many other famous wordsmiths.
All Hallows Eve promises to be a particular highlight as a special event that transcends music, prose and poetry has been organised. Storytellers, poets and musicians alike will get together to welcome the winter and the spirits of the past in true Scottish tradition.
As always, the festival will focus on an international element, with creatives from all across Europe and North America booked for events. Those with an interest in languages won't want to miss a bilingual reading in Italian and English, based on stories from Fiesole in Tuscany.
In short, educators, families and those who simply have an absolute passion for the spoken word will adore this special event. Whether you want to tell a few yarns of your own or improve your understanding of the beautiful Canongate area with a series of events exploring its myriad histories, you will have the time of your life.
