Royal Mail to pay tribute to London theatre breaks
Date Posted: 25/02/11
The Royal Mail is releasing a new set of stamps which will feature images of some of the most popular London theatre breaks.
Taking in plays from the last seven decades, the eight designs will include We Will Rock You, Blood Brothers and Billy Elliott The Musical.
A trip back in time will also see stamps featuring plays like Monty Python's Spamalot and The Rocky Horror Show.
Roger Taylor, from the band Queen, was full of praise for the new stamps, labelling them as "a triumphant gesture, and I think it embodies the spirit of rock 'n' roll that we're trying to get over in our musical".
Official London Theatre reported that it takes two years from the initial idea to the creation of the final stamp.
All of the images contain the Queen's head, and it was recently revealed that a law is to be passed to keep this in place even if Royal Mail is taken over by foreign hands.
