Rocky Horror sequel for West End

The poorly received 1981 film Shock Treatment - a satire of celebrity, greed and desire - is to live again after creator Richard O'Brien announced that the script will see new light as a stage show in the West End.
Originally filmed as a sequel to the phenomenally successful Rocky Horror Picture Show, the plot featured Rocky Horror characters Brad and Janet trying to fight their way out of a sinister TV game show.
It was described as "ludicrous" by The Washington Post and never gained a general release. But now, Mr O'Brien has announced that the script has been reworked for a stage debut set to start at London's King's Head Theatre in April 2015.
"Shock Treatment has been waiting patiently in the wings for a stage premiere since the film was released in 1981," said O'Brien.
"Just as Rocky began life upstairs at the Royal Court, it seems a perfect fit for Shock Treatment to start its stage life in the effervescent atmosphere of the astounding King's Head Theatre."
Before Shock Treatment was released on DVD in 2006, few people had seen the film, but since then it has garnered acclaim as a cult hit.
"It's arguable that the soundtrack album is better than Rocky Horror," commented the BBC's Mark Kermode, who described it as the "perfect cult movie".
The original film is also packed with cameo roles from popular performers including Ruby Wax and Rik Mayall, before they had their big breaks and became household names.
Other highlights at The King's Head Theatre's new season include a rival of Trainspotting, which received great acclaim on the Edinburgh Fringe and celebrates the famous film's 21st anniversary.
Theatregoers might also be interested in a new play by Richard Cameron, The Flannelettes, and a revival of Gilbert and Sullivan's Ruddigore.
