Pygmalion enjoys successful opening night in London's West End
Date Posted: 27/05/11
Pygmalion has opened at the Garrick theatre to a host of positive reviews, with the production being described as witty and humorous.
Peter Brown, writing for Londontheatre.co.uk, said that Kara Tointon, taking the lead role of Eliza Doolittle, reminded him of Audrey Hepburn in the film version.
"But Ms Tointon certainly makes her own mark when she turns up at Mrs Higgins's 'at home' tea party and starts telling the other guests about her aunt's death, drawing gales of laughter from the audience," he told those booking London theatre breaks.
Rupert Everett, taking up the role of Henry Higgins, is described as a bully, with the actor bringing a "mysterious, almost sinister" side to the character.
Furthermore, Charles Spencer, commenting for the Daily Telegraph, said that Peter Eyre (Pickering) is "perfect" in his role, while Michael Feast showed plenty of potential and will "soon be completely at home" playing Alfred Doolittle.
