The Proms Prepares for London Return
Date Posted: 26/06/14
The BBC Proms has long been a favourite event among classical music lovers and it’s gearing up to return to the Royal Albert Hall in July.
Friday July 18th will herald the beginning of two months of concerts and recitals that are sure to excite and enthral in equal measure.
There will be plenty of highlights in the 2014 programme, which is based on the theme of World War I to commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of this devastating conflict.
A special War Horse prom, featuring puppets from the stage show, and a performance of Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem are among the events to look out for.
Composer Richard Strauss will also be honoured in 2014 to mark the 150th anniversary of his birth, with three of his complete operas due to be presented, along with a series of choral concerts focusing on his works.
It’s not all about classical artists, though, as several familiar faces from the world of pop - including the Pet Shop Boys and Paloma Faith - are set to appear alongside their classical counterparts.
If you’re planning a break in London with the kids, don’t worry, as there’s also a special CBeebies Prom just for youngsters.
