Date Posted: 08/03/13

A new musical is set to entertain those on theatre breaks in London when The Color Purple makes its European debut in the capital later this year.
Based on Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name, The Color Purple began its run on Broadway in the US in 2005.
Now, the musical is set to come to the UK, opening at the Menier Chocolate Factory in Southwark on July 5th.
Telling the story of a young black girl growing up in the American south during the turbulent times of the 1930s, The Color Purple has enjoyed considerable success in the US, gaining 11 Tony Award nominations in 2006.
The book was adapted for the stage by Marsha Norman, who won a Tony Award for her work on The Secret Garden, with music and lyrics by Grammy Award winners Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray.
The Color Purple will run at Menier Chocolate Factory until September 14th this year.
