Museum of Liverpool to be a 'world first'
Date Posted: 22/07/11
The Museum of Liverpool has become the first facility of its kind in the world to be devoted solely to the history of a regional city.
Those booking short breaks can now see what the museum has to offer after it opened its doors to the public earlier this week (Tuesday July 19th).
A spokesperson for VisitLiverpool.com said that it is the largest newly-built national institution in Britain for over a quarter of a century.
"The museum will focus on four main themes of port, creative and sporting history, people and global significance with galleries called The Great Port, Wondrous Place, People’s Republic and Global City. It will open in two phases, the second being towards the end of the year," she added.
Among the other cultural attractions on show in Liverpool at the moment include those staged at the World Museum, Walker Art Gallery and the Merseyside Maritime Museum.
