Louvre to restore iconic 'Winged Victory' statue

One of the best things about stays at Paris hotels is the chance to explore the city's many museums and art galleries, with the famous Musee du Louvre likely to be top of the list for many.
And next year, visitors to the iconic museum will be able to see one of its best-known pieces in all its fully restored glory.
It has been announced that this September will see the Louvre carry out a comprehensive restoration of the Winged Victory of Samothrace - a statue depicting the Greek goddess Nike.
The Greek marble artwork - one of the Paris art museum's three best-known pieces along with the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo - will be carefully reconditioned by a team of experts at a cost of some €3 million (£2.52 million), reports AFP.
It is only the second time repair work has been carried out on the headless statue - which dates back to between 220 BC and 185 BC - the first taking place back in 1934.
