Les Miserables set to transfer popularity from stage to screen
Date Posted: 11/01/13
Today sees the release of a film which, when in its theatrical form, was hugely popular with those on theatre breaks for decades.
That is, of course, Les Miserables, which tells the story of Jean Valjean, a French peasant during the country's revolutionary period and has been a perennial hit around the world for years now.
Starring in the film are the likes of Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and Anne Hathaway, with fans set to flock to cinemas across the country to see the movie adaptation.
Among these hoardes is likely to be Sally Frith from Gloucestershire, a self-confessed 'Les Mis' fanatic who has seen the stage version 957 times, spending around £50,000 in the process.
She told the BBC that "it is one of the greatest musicals ever written", adding that she loves "everything about it".
It's believed that more than 60 million people have seen the show over the course of the past three decades.
