Les Miserables, the production that has brought joy to millions of people on theatre breaks over recent decades, has now firmly positioned itself on the cinema scene.
It opened in the UK on Friday with scores of people flocking to cinemas over the weekend to enjoy the film, which tells the story of a French peasant during the country's revolution.
Not only has it scooped the Golden Globe for Best Movie Musical or Comedy, it has also been given impressive reviews by various publications.
Philip French of the Guardian said that the "gamble of filming Les Misérables with on-set singing has resulted in a work of unusual power and colour".
He also added that "the film has a wonderful period look that's both stylised and realistic, and draws on 19th-century French paintings".
Similarly, the Independent described the film as "epic" and praised Anne Hathaway's version of iconic hit I Dreamed a Dream as "spine-tingling" and "hair-raising".
