Largs Viking Festival hits Scotland's west coast

The last time Viking invaders marched onto British shores was during 1263's Battle of Largs and to mark the occasion the Scottish town is holding the exciting Largs Viking Festival this year.

If you've got an interest in our Scandinavian warrior neighbours, you should book short breaks to Largs between Saturday, September 1st and Sunday, September 9th to attend the event.

A spectacular parade will open the festival and then each day an authentic Viking village will open between 11:00 and 17:00 GMT to show visitors how 13th century Vikings lived.

Learn about their clothes, weapons, jewellery, religion, where they came from and why they decided to leave it by talking to them. There will also be a farmers' market and craft fayre every day and, weather permitting, the opportunity to see some beautiful owls.

The climax of the Largs Viking Festival will be the epic re-enactment of the Battle of Largs, performed by 100 Scottish and Norse warriors, the burning of a Viking longship and a momentous firework display.
