Date Posted: 30/03/12
A week tomorrow Oxford and Cambridge universities will battle it out on the River Thames in the historic Boat Race.
Rowing fans should book London hotels for Saturday, April 7th to see the smartest and fittest students from Britain's most prestigious higher education institutions battle it out in the capital.
The event is set to start at 14:15 GMT at Putney Bridge before competitors traverse the four-mile course through Hammersmith and Barnes to Chiswick Bridge.
Cambridge currently has 80 victories overall compared to Oxford's 76, so it is a very tight competition. The first race occurred in 1829 but only became an annual event in 1856.
Two teams of eight vie against each other, with Cambridge performing in light blue while Oxford wear dark blue.
Oxford won last year's competiton on Saturday, March 26th with a time of 17 minutes 32 seconds.
The fastest time achieved in recent years was in 1998 when Cambridge completed the course in 16 minutes 19 seconds.
