Jurassic Coast Receives Popularity Boost Thanks to TV Show
Date Posted: 25/04/13
Tourists in need of inspiration for weekend breaks around the UK may want to consider watching an episode of the popular crime drama Broadchurch, which recently aired on ITV.
Set along the coastline of Dorset and East Devon, the show has helped to boost visitor numbers to the area by highlighting the amazing natural beauty on offer.
Writer Chris Chibnall has described the programme as a "love letter to the scenery of the Jurassic Coast", and West Dorset District Council's leisure and tourism manager Nick Thornley says the show has helped to put the area "on the map", Digital Spy reports.
The Jurassic Coast is a place of great geological significance, containing rocks that are up to 185 million years old, as well as many fossils that pre-date the dinosaurs.
Visitors to the UNESCO World Heritage Site can learn more about the period while enjoying the breathtaking coastal scenery at the same time.
