Family Arts Festival Gets Underway
Date Posted: 18/10/13
A UK-wide celebration of all things to do with theatre gets underway today (October 18th).
The Family Arts Festival is in its inaugural year - but has already gained support by industry figures Andrew Lloyd Webber and Zoe Wanamaker.
Around 800 organisations are expected to take part - to offer a range of entertainment in the form of dance, music, theatre and other arts.
The festival takes place until November 3rd, with around a quarter of the events being completely free - while others will offer reduced prices or special offers for families.
Among the groups taking part are the Royal Shakespeare Company, Newcastle's Live Theatre and London's Barbican.
It is hoped that the event will encourage families to book theatre breaks to entertain their children during the October half term break.
The festival forms part of a larger scheme - the Family Arts Campaign, which has been given £1.1 million of investment by Arts Council England.
