Evita opens at the Dominion Theatre
Date Posted: 30/09/14
The much-loved and iconic musical Evita is back, with a new production hitting the stage at the Dominion Theatre for a limited run following the closure of We Will Rock You, and Madalena Alberto, a much-respected name in the theatrical industry, takes on the inimitable role of Eva, which will include singing the famous aria Don't Cry For Me Argentina..
Starring theatrical stalwart Marti Pellow - who has considerable experience treading the boards following stints in Chess, Blood Brothers and The Witches of Eastwick - the musical tells the rise and fall of Eva Peron and her husband.
A last-minute casting announcement has confirmed that Matthew Cammelle, who has previously appeared in The Three Phantoms and The Phantom of the Opera, will perform the role of Peron.
That leaves Madalena Alberto, a household name in the theatrical industry, to take on the inimitable role of Eva, which includes the famous aria Don't Cry For Me Argentina.
Other classic songs you can expect to hear cross their vocal chords include You Must Love Me, On This Night Of A Thousand Stars and Another Suitcase in Another Hall.
The two lead characters are based, of course, on real life president of Argentina Juan Domingo Peron and his wife Eva, who was affectionately given the name Evita by the people of the country.
Audiences can also expect moving performances from Sarah McNicholas as Peron's mistress and Ben Forster, who takes on Eva's first love Agustin Magaldi.
Those interested in seeing this production are encouraged to snap up their tickets quickly as it will take up residence at the Dominion only for 55 performances.
Other great shows appearing in the West End just in time for Christmas include the wonderful tale of Edward Scissorhands and Andrew Lloyd Webber's other masterpiece Cats, which will have a similarly limited run extending into 2015.
