England is ideal destination for short breaks

England is one of the top destinations for short breaks and is one reason why people are choosing the staycation over a typical two-week break abroad.
Sarah Long, a spokesperson for VisitEngland, said that weekend breaks, four-night visits and day trips are the best type of excursion to take in the country.
"I think there are lots of reasons to take a holiday at home. There's so much on our doorstep that we don’t realise, it's easy to get to and great value for money. We have got fantastic food and drink establishments, amazing countryside, great cities and all of these fantastic events coming up next year," she stated.
Ms Long picked out the diamond jubilee, London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympics, and the torch relay as some of next year's highlights.
In addition, a "huge rise" in music and art festivals is providing something for everyone.
Her words came after the Office for National Statistics revealed that the royal wedding helped visitor figures to the UK go up by over 15 per cent in April compared with the same time last year.
