Elbow and Paul Weller get astronomical this summer
Date Posted: 29/02/12
Paul Weller and Elbow are scheduled to play a dramatic concert in the shadow of one of the world's largest and most powerful telescopes this summer.
Those taking short breaks to the Lovell telescope in Cheshire can see Elbow play on Saturday, June 23rd before Paul Weller takes to the stage the next day on Sunday, June 24th.
The performances will be the second and third in the Live at Jodrell Bank series after The Flaming Lips played in Transmission 001 last summer.
Lovell telescope is used as more than just a backdrop to the performances as it also becomes a makeshift projection screen.
When the telescope was constructed in the mid-1950s it was the largest of its kind in the world, spanning a diameter of 76m and rising 89m.
Structures in Germany and Virginia, USA now stand taller than the Lovell telescope, but it remains as grandiose as ever, making for a perfect evening of live music, experiments and workshops.
