Edinburgh named Europe's Leading Destination at 'Travel Oscars'
Date Posted: 17/10/12

Tourists who have booked city breaks and hotels in Edinburgh appear to have made a very wise decision after the city was named as Europe's Leading Destination.
The award was handed to the city at the prestigious World Travel Awards 2012, known in the industry as the 'Travel Oscars', with Edinburgh's council leader expressing his delight at the news.
Andrew Burns said the award was "fantastic news for Edinburgh and a terrific endorsement from the people who work in the travel industry".
The Scottish capital had to fight off stiff competition from European heavyweights such as Berlin, Barcelona, London and Rome to bag the award.
Mr Burns added that the city being given the award shows just what a "world class tourist destination steeped in history" Edinburgh is.
The city's most famous tourist attraction is arguably the comedy festival which takes place annually although its castle and nightlife are also popular.
