Dublin gets set for French film festival
Date Posted: 05/11/14
The Carte Noire IFI French Film Festival, commonly referred to as the flagship festival of the Irish Film Institute, will once again return to the vibrant city of Dublin later this month for a rousing celebration of motion picture.
As always, the event is set to attract thousands of cinephiles to the metropolis over its 11-day programme, with many distinguished and revered names in French cinema set to bring their newest movies to the streets.
Over the many successful years that this festival has been held, a whole host of names including Juliette Binoche, Arnaud Desplechin, Emmanuelle Devos, Xavier Beauvois, Jane Birkin and Isabelle Carré have previously shown up on the red carpet.
This year is set to be no different, with a plethora of exciting new films set to make their premieres at this exciting festival. Among them is The Blue Room, which will see actor and director Mathieu Amalric take to the stage himself for a Q&A session with audience members. Amalric is best known for his roles in Quantum of Solace, Munich and The Diving Bell and The Butterfly.
The fun gets started on November 19th with a screening of Céline Sciamma's latest new work Girlhood, with star Assa Sylla set to be in attendance. Cinephiles can expect almost two weeks of enjoyment, with the extravaganza set to finish on November 30th.
Festival director Marie-Pierre Richard said of 2014's event: "This year's programme is defined by audacious stories, atypical formal characteristics, rigorous direction and vibrant performances.
"We see fresh perspectives and formal freedom; work which flirts with genres and with cinema's past."
Visitors to Dublin who are keen on attending the event are encouraged to check the full programme, available online, which offers a list of all the screenings they can enjoy over the forthcoming festival.
