Christmas in Dublin
Date Posted: 30/11/14
It's almost December and if you're not feeling Christmassy already, then what's wrong with you? Get yourself and the family along to Dublin where the fun is in full swing, with dozens of attractions to keep you busy over the festive period.
From markets and live music to special performances and magical ice skating in the glorious city centre, this is a city that knows how to celebrate the month of mince pies and reindeer. Check out our favourite highlights below and see if you're itching to experience the festive period in Dublin this year.
St Stephen's Green
The stunning centre of St Stephen's Green is beautifully decorated for the festive season with thousands of multicoloured lights that certainly add a Christmassy vibe to proceedings. It makes for a great experience, just strolling through this iconic part of the city while it looks its best. But what's more - there will be dozens of things to do while you're here. Why not indulge in some Christmas shopping at the authentic Christmas Market, which will be selling all manner of homemade goods and seasonal snacks? Then there's a whole winter wonderland attraction featuring rides and activities that will warm the hearts of the adults as well as the children. And what winter wonderland would be complete without a visit from the big man himself? Yes - Santa Claus will be present. The market is already up and running and will be in Dublin until December 22nd.
Hypnotic Brass Ensemble
Legendary Chicago brothers the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble will take on a three-day residency at the ever-popular Sugar Club on Leeson Street Lower, with the stated aim of getting everyone in the festive spirit. This extraordinary family of professional musicians and singers knows exactly how to entertain, with their jazz roots and hip hop sensibilities honed by impromptu busking sessions across the windy city. Their gigs in New York have also proven somewhat legendary, so Dublin is very happy indeed to welcome them for Christmas. They will be supported by rising star Lauriana Mae while they are in town, and tickets are priced at €20. The dates are from December 4th until the 6th.
Red Riding Hood's Dangerous Christmas Adventure
All ages will adore the opportunity to experience the theatrical - and altogether rather Christmassy - retelling of Little Red Riding Hood. Expect plenty of up-tempo singing and dancing as our crimson-clad heroine evades the clutches of the hungry wolf, amid mince pies and Santa Claus. This is a pantomime done in classic style with plenty of opportunities to boo and hiss at everyone involved. Fantastic fun for all the family, taking place from December 8th until the 23rd.
Ice Skating at the Millennium Park
There's nothing like getting that fun frosty feeling that you can only have from gliding around on the ice. For seasoned skaters and beginners alike, this is the perfect place to be. Surrounded by the picturesque Millennium Park, with its beautiful trees, unending green spaces and playgrounds for children, you will really feel the Christmas spirit. There's no doubt about it - Dublin is a great place to start feeling Christmassy.
