Christmas capital of the UK: York is top of the tree
Date Posted: 24/11/10

Families in search of some festive fun have been told to book York hotels and see what it has to offer.
Councillor Susan Galloway, the Lord Mayor of York, told the York Press that the city is the "Christmas capital" of Britain, thanks to events such as its St Nicholas Fayre and carols in the Minster on the eve of the big day.
"Whether it is a contemporary or classic Christmas experience you want, anyone coming to York from November onwards will be amazed by what this extraordinary city has to offer," she stated.
Lord Mayor Galloway's comments were backed up by the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, who stated that the city had "a real buzz" at this time of year.
"Across York, local people are determined to show visitors the warmest of welcomes and to ensure everyone enjoys the city's unique atmosphere," he added.
This year, York Theatre Royal will host Jack and the Beanstalk, which features pantomime star Berwick Kaler.
