Date Posted: 10/08/12

The London Royal Air Force (RAF) Museum is to celebrate one of Britain's most important skirmishes of World War II the Battle of Britain with a weekend of special events.
History buffs should book short breaks to the museum for Saturday, 15th September and Sunday, 16th September to see the annual pageant, as well as a variety of talks, tours and tableaux concerts.
There will be an exciting Spitfire flypast, weather permitting on the second day, performances by the Barnet Band underneath the museum's Lancaster bomber, tours of the Battle of Britain Hall and even an exciting screening of the classic film Battle of Britain on the Sunday afternoon.
The weekend aims to commemorate the bravery of all the RAF pilots that took part in the perilous dog fights above the English Channel as they sought to put a stop to any possible German invasion of Britain.
Between July and October 1940 more than 3,000 people lost their lives in the battle, with just under 1,000 Axis individuals captured. Britain's victory was considered a vital turning point in the war.
