Cape Town Opera's Porgy and Bess to return to UK
Date Posted: 29/12/11
Cape Town Opera is to return to the UK with its production of Porgy and Bess, culminating in a two week run in London.
From July 11th to 21st, the production of George Gershwin's classic will take up residence at the prestigious London Coliseum as the ensemble marks 75 years since the creator's death.
Those on London theatre breaks will be in for a treat in the historic surroundings of the Coliseum, first opened in 1904 and boasting both a strong architecture and history, having played host to the likes of Winston Churchill.
Cape Town Opera first brought their production of Porgy and Bess to the UK in 2009, and will also take in venues in Birmingham, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Canterbury and Southampton, during their tour of the UK.
The opera is set in America's Deep South in the 1920s and features songs including Summertime, I Got Plenty Of Nuttin', It Ain't Necessarily So and I Love You Porgy.
