Anyone planning to visit London this year may want to think about booking a night out at the theatre to see the smash hit show The Book of Mormon, after the production opened to rave reviews in the West End.
Having begun its residency at the Prince of Wales Theatre on March 21st, the play went on to set a West End box office record by selling over £2 million worth of tickets on a single day on March 22nd.
Written by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, creators of the popular TV series South Park, and featuring music by Avenue Q composer Robert Lopez, the comedy musical tells the story of a group of Mormon missionaries in Uganda.
Cameron Mackintosh, owner of the Prince of Wales Theatre, commented: "After a phenomenal opening night I am delighted to see a phenomenal record-breaking post opening box office of over £2 million. The Mormons have truly delivered a heavenly hit."
Due to popular demand, the show's run has now been extended to January 2014, with an extra 150,000 tickets being made available.
