Friendly people and a beautiful city made this a great break and the weather was good too! We did Auschwitz and the Salt Mines on organised tours which were excellent if a bit rushed. The Castle we did on our own and it was a bit confusing as to what was open when! Wawel Cathedral is amazing and do go down through the dragons cave. We did Kazimierz on our own which was a mistake as we got v lost, better to go on a 'golf buggy' from main square but we did find Galicia museum with a very moving photo exhibition. Also found delicious dumplings .. the fruit ones are incredible. Lots of good restaurants and bars.

A customer who stayed at 4* Novotel Krakow Centrum in Krakow wrote this review.
The city itself is quite beautiful, with many many ornate buildings. There are litrally hundreds of beautiful churches throughout the area, but the Old town area has many beautiful examples. There is a great tram service running throughout the city itself, however, as English is not a very well spoken language, i would suggest that you seek information from the hotel staff in how to use the tram system. It is not as simple unfortunately as buying the ticket on the tram. Buses and taxis are very cheap methods of transport, however you should avoid the taxis parked by the main railway station, unless they are usung a meter. Travel by rail is a nightmare, especially if you do not speak any Polish, as again English is suprisingly not spoken at all at most of the main railway stations. Tickets usually have to be reserved on the intercity routes in advance of the day you travel. You can book these from home on the internet, and i would suggest that this is probably a best option for anyone thinking of using the polish railway network. Most coach operators run trips to all the big attractions in the area, and the coaches pick up at most hotels in the area. the trips are value for money, however for attractions such as Auschwitz or Birkenau you may not have enough time to see all of it. If there is one thing I would recommend, then it's warm clothing. The temperatures dropped to as low as -14 some nights, and with a wind accompanying it, the chill factor even lower. So for those visiting during the Polish winter months, warm clothing is a must.
