I quite liked this hotel. It was good for me because I'm just a single traveller. The rooms are kinda small but that wasn't an issue for me. I absolutely loved the bed. It was an electronic bed...so you could sit up and watch Tv...and then when your ready for bed you can make it lay all the way down. The rooms are modern. It's about a step up from a premier inn in the U.K. The showers are amazing too. I actually liked the check in process as you don't have to deal with people. You pay and get the key card all from an automated system. The food from the restaurant was pretty average. It's Mediterranean style. Nothing super fancy although I did wish they had proper room service. Drinks from the bar was good. Apparently there is a gym...but I never checked it out. Lobby and terrace are all decorated nicely so it makes for a pretty good chill out zone. It's very central too if your into all the tourist stuff. Other then that I probably would stay here again. This is a very interesting hotel. The rooms are referred to as cabins and do, indeed, have the feel of large cruise ship cabins. The space is utilized to the max, with the bed automatically going from a sort of couch into a queen sized flat bed automatically, the bathroom is interestingly concealed and , overall, the experience was quite enjoyable. Now, I am 5 foot 6 and 190 pounds and pretty wide in the shoulders. My wife is 5 foot 3 and 110 pounds, so we aren't the largest people around. If you are a very big person, you might want to inquire as to the size of your room before booking, but, overall, the Yotel experience was great. Collapse
Great value close to Times Square and Port Authority

This is a modern, efficient hotel that's a few blocks from Times Square and Port Authority. The beds fold down when in use and up to get out of the way during the day. You have everything you need, including a breakfast bar and beverage station.

We stayed at the Yotel NYC for eight nights in March 2017. Firstly, I'd like to talk about communication from the hotel. As we were arriving on St. Patrick's Day, I both emailed the hotel (email address taken from their website) and tweeted their twitter account with a question about road closures potentially affecting travel to the hotel. Neither my email, nor my tweet got a reply so they lose marks for communication which is a basic requirement for running a hotel - no excuses for getting this wrong. Secondly, price. We managed to find a very competitive room rate by shopping around. Booking was made through a third part website that had a much better rate than the one quoted directly from Yotel. Our advice would be to shop around and there are good deals to be had. Third- lobby and communal areas. This hotel has an entrance lobby at ground level on 10th Ave, which has a few staff members and check in kiosks, and a luggage storage robot. Access to the rest of the hotel is via lifts to the 4th floor - dubbed 'mission control', where you will find a regular check in and concierge desk alongside the cafe, bar, restaurant and other seating areas. A further lift from the 4th floor will take you to the rooms or 'cabins' as they are called. The check in kiosks did not allow us to check in but that was sorted out at the 'mission control' desk by a staff member. The lifts play DJ mixed music, the 4th floor is decked out with wacky artwork and furniture. There are complimentary breakfast muffins available from the fourth floor cafe during the mornings, and ice/water machines on each floor. There is no room service, but you can order food 'to-go' from the fourth floor restaurant. Fourth- the cabins. We were given a cabin on the 17th floor. First impressions were the room was a bit tired- the funky purple backlighting around the TV was not working, there were scuffs around the bed frame and room fittings, the curtain separating the sleeping area from the bathroom needed cleaning, there was some mould spores evident at the top of the sliding glass rail to the toilet/shower that hadn't been cleaned and the shower head was in need of attention - it was partially clogged with limescale and what looked like rust. Combine this with a slight lack of water pressure and it didn't make for a particularly invigorating shower. The 'monsoon' shower head is also fixed in place, bear this in mind. The bed itself was comfortable to sleep and we appreciated the space available by folding the bed up to a 'sitting' position using the controls by the desk. Plug sockets were placed in good locations to allow phone charging/use and there was an AUX cable available for plugging into the TV to play music. Despite the cabin being small, there were plenty of areas to store luggage or little bits and pieces like phones, jewelry and toiletries. The addition of an iron, mini ironing board and hair dryer were also welcome. The wifi was also free and fast throughout the hotel. One annoyance is that the room is controlled by a movement sensor mounted above the door. The sensor was facing toward the bed and would flash a bright green and red any time movement was detected- this is totally unnecessary for a bedroom and the hotel should take steps to cover up the LED indicators on the sensor as it is disturbing to sleep/rest when the lights are off. Another is that the sound proofing between rooms and the corridor is poor. Expect to hear your neighbours, their music, and late arrivals back to the hotel, especially on weekends. We also came back one day to the smell of marijuana, it seems that smoking still occurs despite being banned and spreads throughout the ventilation system from other rooms. One other area which I found perplexing was the sliding glass partition between the sink area and the toilet/shower area. The glass partition did not fully meet the wall when closed which rendered it pretty pointless. The glass also did nothing to stop sound travelling so if someone is using the shower/toilet during the night any other occupants of the room will definitely hear you. The cabin could be vastly improved with some clever use of glass partitions for sound proofing purposes without increasing/losing space. If you run out of space/have a late flight out your luggage can also be stored by a futuristic luggage robot on the ground floor- although this should be free instead of USD 2 per bag which is pretty steep considering most hotels offer this as a complimentary service. Be warned that unless you stick a 'do not disturb' sign on your door that housekeeping staff will start doing their rounds/knocking in the morning so if you do not want to be disturbed make sure you put the sign up. Things we liked most: Location, Free wifi, free filtered water/ice machine on each floor, free breakfast muffins. Overall a reasonable stay let down by a tired room and poor pre stay communication.
