Large, quiet and reasonably maintained rooms, just nothing particularly outstanding... oh, and Marriott does provide free wifi for Marriott rewards members - which is free to join, so ffs join, and don't whine about them charging... I spent a few researching places to book a surprise stay for my parents upcoming 50th Wedding Anniversary. The Marriott was a bit over our budget at £110 a night but looking at the facilities and reviews we thought it was worth it for such a special occassion. They had stayed at Marriotts all over the world and had some great memories of places so I thought I could trust it would be a stay to remember. My parents have been unable to holiday for the past 8 years due to my fathers cancer and an accident leaving my Mum partially paralyzed. In order to make sure the stay was perfect I emailed the hotel ahead of time to advise how special these 2 days away together would be and asked for a quiet room, extra pillows and towels in advance. I booked a Deluxe Room with 2 Double beds. So upsetting for me to have them telephone me to say they had come home earlier with all the problems they had experienced it has left us all with a bitter taste on such a special occasion. On arrival they were welcomed with a bottle of procesco (lovely gesture) unfortunately the card was incorrecrly addressed to 'Mr Peter' (Dads first name) rather than Mr & Mrs.. It also had Happy 70th Anniversary on the note. Ok a slight mistake but its all these little things we paid for the Marriott to get right. After a day sightseeing they came back mid evening to find the room had no hot water so no big hot baths to ease walking pains. The room allocated on the ground floor and seemed quiet enough apart from corridor noise (weds night midweek) so you can expect the odd disturbence. In the morning Dad had gone down to reception who said they would have someone come to look at the plumbing. Another day siteseeing, this evening only boiling hot water - From the taps, the shower and the basin! No bath tonight either! My parents are both on substantial medications including sleeping aids - despite this my parents were kept away by the family in the room above running up and down inbetween rooms until 2.15am in the morning. They went to recpetion in the morning and explained what had happened and while a bit apologetic - didnt offer anything to try to make things a bit more enjoyable (A voucher for lunch or afternoon tea wouldve be a nice touch) So a Terrible nights sleep left them unable to go out for their last days site seeing and they drove the 2.5 home - Telephoned me (who was expecting tales of jubilation and romance!) to tell me all the things that had happened at 10am. My parents are in their 70s, Its not often they get a treat and I had tried to pick the best place I could. If they had stayed at a Premier Inn at least they wouldve got the 2nd nights fee refunded under the money back guarantee for no sleep. Disappointed a few problems ruined things for them - Not a big deal to some but for them (and me arranging it) it wasnt the special stay we hoped for. Collapse

Just a one night, two day stay in York was a good experience at the York Marriott. Okay it could do with a little updating but was clean and the staff were excellent. The room, overlooking the racecourse, was huge ,well appointed and very quiet. However it is a long time since I've had a shower in a slippery bath with a curtain ! The restaurant chargrilled steaks were outstanding and the breakfasts were as good as I've had anywhere. It is a long walk to the city for those who are a bit less fit than they were and York is a very expensive place to park, so I would get the bus in if I stopped again. As we only stopped overnight we didn't have chance to use the leisure facilities so cannot comment on them. Collapse

We have just returned from a two night stay in one of the rooms which overlooked the racecourse. A great view, despite the weather being a little hit and miss. Room was great, and the only complaint was the noisy people next door banging the doors at 1.15am on a Monday morning. All the staff we encountered were lovely, and the food at breakfast was of good quality. Pool area was nice and peaceful whilst we were there. We will definitely return Collapse

Myself, partner and our two babies stayed here for my brother's wedding. The hotel is ideally situated, just a short distance from the city centre. Parking was more than ample and seemed secure. Check-in was done in a very professional and friendly manner, making us feel extremely welcomed right from the start. The room was located on the ground floor and to the rear, to allow quiet/privacy with having the babies. However it was a bit of a trek from the main area and a slight struggle to access with our double buggy. Temperature in the corridors was a little on the warm side. No major issues though. The room temperature upon arrival was perfect. Two cots were assembled for us, complete with pillows and bedding which saved any hassle especially arriving fairly late evening. The room was modern and kept clean, booklets of services were a plenty and very helpful. The mattresses supplied to the hotel are actually available to buy should you like them, however we didn't find it to be the most comfiest, but that could be down to individual preference. Towels and spares were a plenty. The bathroom was kept to a decent standard of cleanliness and the shower was nice and powerful. The bar was a little on the pricey side but expected in a city. Room service and bar is available 24 hours a day which was extremely handy. Breakfast was lovely. Buffet style with plenty to choose from in terms of continental and cooked. Sausages and bacon in particular were amazing. My brothers wedding was perfect. Decorated beautifully and the staff organising/running it did their upmost best to see that is was done to perfection making it such a wonderful and special day. We certainly would not hesitate to stay here again and recommend it to anyone for functions, business or pleasure. Collapse
