Staff are very welcoming. Room is spacious, bed is amazingly comfy. Restaurant is delicious for evening meal and breakfast. Leisure facilities are excellent. Close to York centre (5 mins in car). Would return.

Just returned from a 3 day break. The Hotel was great. The staff were all friendly and welcoming and as I had never been to York before the reception staff were more than happy to offer advice. Our room had a balcony and view of the racecourse and was very spacious. It was spotless and well laid out. The breakfasts were nice but we ate out all the time so didnt sample the dinner menu. We walked into the City Centre on our 1st day but then started using the local bus service which was excellent and reliable. York is stunning and we had a fantastic holiday. I will return and would definitely stay at the Marriott again. Thanks to everyone for making our stay so enjoyable. Collapse

Last week we spent three nights in three different Marriotts, hoping to take advantage of the current bonus points on offer via their loyalty scheme. Of the three, the York Marriott was head and shoulders ahead of the other two. I have a platinum Marriott card and know that I won't be able to keep it too much longer so I wanted to enjoy the perks whilst I could. York doesn't have a lounge but we got something much better - a free upgrade to one of the two penthouse suites. My husband said "You could live in here" and I think he was quite tempted to do that. The room has a fabulous view over the racecourse park and the gardens. The bed is simply ginormous. My card status gets us free breakfast which is always good. I wished we'd realised how nicely located the breakfast room was as we might well have eaten in the night before if we'd seen the lovely garden views. Staff were polite and welcoming. The car park was big enough and well laid out (more than can be said for the Preston Marriott two days later) and the location is about a mile and a half from the town centre. Buses pass frequently up and down the Tadcaster Road. Of the three we stayed in, this is definitely top of the list for 'must return'. Collapse

We had a slight issue on our second day and would like to thank John for his understanding and how he managed the situation a credit to the hotel. Collapse

We arrived at 6pm on Saturday 12th of August 2017 having paid £169 for a nights stay at the Marriott in York. Check in was great. Upon arrival at our room the bathroom looked nice and the room appeared okay. We looked out the window and we saw a roof about five feet away obscurring the view totally. Upon further inspection we found a number of issues with the room. The TV did not stay on and kept going blank. We didn't have any robes as promised. The wall paper was hanging off. The kettle could not be used as there was no power outlet near it at all, I had to move it on to the floor to boil. I tried to open the heavy glass mirrored wardrobe door and it fell off its hinges. The only lamp in the room flickered. I decided I should complain so I went to reception and mentioned the TV and the lack of robes. The receptionist mentioned that not all rooms had robes and some would be sent up and the TV would be repaired. We decided to go for a swim while they did this. The pool was fine. We got back to our room and some wet robes had been placed into our wardrobe with the door still hanging off. The TV still did not work. I went back down to reception and complained again. A man named David was sent up to look at our TV he couldn't fix it. So we asked about moving rooms. David was unsure and went to find out if they had a spare room. David found us a spare room, one of their newly refurbished rooms on the bottom floor with a view of the car park. It was a slightly better room, the shower rail in the bathroom was hanging off and the bathroom had not been cleaned properly, but it was very kind of David to have moved us somewhere better with a working TV, a kettle we could use and less immediate problems but still there were no robes. David very kindly brought my girlfriend some lemon and honey tea so the one star is for David. We did not stay for breakfast and checked out, I mentioned to the lady receptionist that it was like Fawlty Towers at the Marriott and she said she was sorry. I paid feeling like I had been ripped off and we went into York city to get away from this terrible hotel. I will never stay at a Marriott again and I would urge others to look elsewhere. Collapse
