Having recently moved to the area myself and my family have spent the last two weeks checking out the local haunts. A very friendly greeting was given from Laura, who showed us the Specials board, took us to a table and took our drinks order whilst we perused the menu and then brought our drinks over to us. There was a young dark haired lad behind the bar who took our order and was also very friendly, I think my daughter was quite taken with him! The food was impeccable! All 5 meals piping hot and very tasty. We all tried each other's and all thoroughly enjoyed them all. We ordered the Butterscotch Cheesecake from the Specials Board and sincerely hope the chef makes more of this and keeps it on the main menu, it was delicious! We were checked on at frequent intervals without being "bothered" by staff and can now easily say that The Windmill & Turnpike will become the new Sinclair family local! We will be back and will recommend! Collapse

me and my family have been regulars at the windmill for years and even booked out the entire hotel for events which we have held. Its such a shame that is has changed hands because it has totally gone down hill. On sunday at 5pm i visited with some friends who were travelling back to birmingham after our meal. we waiting an hour and a half for our meals (after numerous questioning as to where our food was to be told "its 5 mins away") we were told that the reason for the wait was that there was a big table in- i found this a ridiculous excuse because we weren't told that there would be over an hour wait on food when we arrived (we would have gone elsewhere if we were told this) and every time i saw a staff member coming out of the kitchen they had no food in their hands. i complained (politely) at the end asking for money off our bill and to also have our first set of drinks taken off the bill (we only went in for a quick meal and had well finished our drinks before our meals arrive- these were all soft drinks) i was totally disgusted with how i was spoken to by the lady behind the bar. i was told there was nothing that they could do and that i had to just except it because "everyone else in the pub was also waiting a long time for their food" when i finally got her to take the drinks off and to have a discount off the food, after telling her that we were not happy with the service that we received, i went back to the table to sort the bill with everyone only to find out she hadn't taken any discount off the food at all. i approach the bar lady again to ask why she hadn't taken the discount off like she said she would and she replied with "i never said i would give a discount" and then followed on with "oh, you know what, don't pay at all, I've got way more important things to do than sorting this out, and other people to serve! just forget it!" i was absolutely shocked and disgusted with how i was spoken to. NOTE- when i walked away from the bar she started talking to two other girls behind the bar (not serving or appearing to be working at all!) and then she just moved across to the other desk in front of the kitchen where she stood until we left. never in my years of visiting this pub have i experienced such shocking and unprofessional customer service! sort it out before you lose a lot more business from regular customers.
