We spent a long weekend (Thursday - Sunday) in the Palace adn really enjoyed ourselves. We were offered a multiple upgrade upon check-in (part for free and part we had to pay). I cannot judge the restaurants as we did not eat in the hotel, but the room service (for drinks) was very good, even when dealing with our more complex wishes, and very fast. The bar services (in the lounge area) was highly competent and they tried very hard to speak English with us. The only "disappointment " was that, although the staff knew that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary, we did not receive anything from the hotel. A small local gift would have been a nice token. Collapse
Lack of employee training, should improve communication with booking.com

After a 400 miles drive we arrived by car at the hotel Westin Palace in Madrid around 2pm. No bellboy around. After five minutes we got finally the attention of somebody from the house. My husband and I were traveling with our lovely and well educated dog. As often we booked over booking.com and informed the hotel via booking.com, that we were travelling with our dog (38 kg) and were arriving by car. Before we booked, we always check the terms and conditions about pets. On booking.com we found, that pets are allowed and the hotel should be informed. In the terms and conditions of the Westin Palace we found - a maximum of one dog is allowed in a guest room. No other pets are permitted. For dogs under 18 kilogramm, there is no additional fee. The hotel must be notified about the pet at the time of the reservation. So we did not see any problem. After we had almost finished check-in, the person behind the desk asked us about the weight of our dog. We answered 38 kg. Without saying anything the employee left his workplace and went to the backoffice. After an other minute, a men (maybe the manager on duty or so) came around, watched our dog, went back behind the check-in desk and asked us again what the weight of our dog was. He did not introduce himself with neither name nor function, no information at all from his side, of what exactly was the problem. So I informed him, that we made at the time of booking an email via booking.com with all the information requested by his house. He looked at me and said that he wanted to see that mail. He was very unfriendly and very unprofessional in his reaction. Finally we were informed, that the Westin Palace Madrid was refusing to accept dogs over 18 kg!!! To be clear- this was nowhere to be found on the website! The person (maybe the manager on duty- we still do not know) did not once give us his excuses, no "it's maybe our fault" or whatever. He just said: you can not stay in our house! After a few minutes some staff member gave us a receipt (just the slip from the machine) for the refund of our 1 week ahead prepaid hotel room for 3 nights on our credit card. I never in my life was treated like this and this happened in a so called 5 star hotel. After all the concierge organised us another 5 star hotel in Madrid, where our dog was very welcome - thank's for that. Conclusion: We have no problems about hotels who do not accept pets! Pls. communicate that on the used platforms (hotel.com, booking.com...) and also in the terms and conditions of the hotel. Because until today we did not find in written that the hotel would not accept dogs over 18 kg. Pls. answer emails you get if there is a problem! Can't be a hotel guest problem to not answering an email! Pls train your staff better in case of a problem like this - nobody likes to stand around for more then one our in the hotel lobby, waiting like a fool - and treated like a lyer- apparently the manager did not believe that we wrote that mail.! Pls train you management how to communicate in such a situation and how to handle such a problem! Perhaps start with an "I am sorry.." Don't forget, that we are not always traveling with our dog! That's maybe the chance, when we would come back to your house! Don't forget that we have a lot of friends, business partners to whom we usually recommend a hotel or in your case, we would never recommend The Westin Palace Madrid if they act so poor if there occurs problem The manager on duty or whoever this person was, was absolutely unable to cope with the situation! It was very dissapointing, htat we could not stay at the hotel. But the reason for the bad critics is predominantly how we were treated and how the manager acted on such delicate situation! Collapse

This is one of the best hotel I stay, judging from an experience traveler who normally travel abroad once a month. - The hotel itself is a historical place, tourist stop by to take a picture of the dome inside the hotel. - The room is a standard 4-5 star hotel. Nothing fancy but has all the essentials. - The location is superb. On one side, it's a 5 minute walk to the Prado and after that to one of the nicest park in middle of the a big city. One the other side it's a 10 min walk to center of Madrid and another 10 to the Palace and its surroundings. - The best part of this hotel is the service. The conceiges are willing to answer anything and give you good advice on direction and places. I requested a kettle from the room service and it came right away. When I requested for a late checkout, the reception guy said "take your time, we don't want to kick you out of the hotel" and he extend my checkout till 4 pm. If coming back to Madrid, would definitely stay at this hotel. Collapse

Wife and I were here for 5 nights over the New Year holiday. We arrived to Madrid by train. From the train station, the hotel was an easy 10 minute walk. We left Madrid by air, the bus to the airport leaves from Cibeles which is a block away from the hotel. We took the Cercania C1 train since our flight leaves from Terminal 4 and C1 goes directly to 4. It was easy from the Atocha train station. The check in process was simple and easy, the lady that helped us was super friendly and helpful. Our room wasn’t ready at the time so we left our luggage and went tapa bar hopping On Calle de Jesus, which was right next to the hotel. We loved Los Gatos so much we went back every day we were there. After we received a call to let us know our room was ready, we went right back picked up our keys and our luggages were already in the room waiting for us. The room was simply amazing, clean and comfortable. We felt right at home. This is also the only hotel we stayed at with English TV channels and big HDTVs. Also it has an option on the remote to turn off Spanish dubbing on American TV shows. The bathroom amenities were fantastic, and the waterfall style shower was relaxing. Our nights were peaceful and they participate in Make a Green Choice program which we fully took advantage of to earn extra points for refusing housekeeping. From the hotel we were able to get to anywhere we needed on foot and via public transport. Sol was a 5minute walk from the hotel which made shopping and groceries easy. We spent New Years Eve among thousands in Sol and it was unforgettable. The concierge made dinner reservation for us and helped us with anything we needed. All the staffs there were professional and super helpful. WiFi worked flawlessly when we were there, I had the SPG network profile on my iPhone which allowed automatic connection to super high speed WiFi and it worked as intended. We made free phone calls back home via Tmobile WiFi calling and the internet speed was fast and strong enough to handle that. We booked the hotel via points for 4 nights and we never taken advantage of the SPG 5th night free when we booked it originally. Our flight was canceled and was pushed a day. We needed to stay an extra night unexpectedly, wanted to take advantage of the promo at that point. Spain SPG customer service communicated with the hotel and made it happen. It was much appreciated that they credited my account with the points needed and extended the promo to me, it elevated our experience and really positively anchored our last day in Spain. Overall this hotel was amazing, and we can’t wait to be back. Collapse
