It was my first visit to Houston and someone recommended me this hotel. What i've been told is that it is located in a really good and safe commercial zone. I was not able to visit the mall, but they say it is huge. Lots of restaurants around. The hotel is under renovation, so it was really noisy and i have a worker hanging outside my window doing some work, so zero privacy at all. The renovation makes sense because the rooms are old, the bathroom compared with other Westin's it was old and with a really dim light, so i had to go outside the bathroom to put my make up on. The bed was comfortable and the service in general was good. There is a gym, which i didn't visit but seems ok. I will definitely visit the hotel again. Collapse

I had to spend several months in Houston on business and stayed in a variety of hotels and by far the Westin Oaks made my stay a pleasure. I initially purchased two weeks of my stay on Hotwire as I have a lodging budget but when I couldn't get a deal anymore, a simple e-mail to the hotel explaining my needs and they were able to accommodate my cap and I will say that anytime and I mean ANYTIME I stay in Houston I will stay here n questions asked. I cannot stress becoming an SPG member for you will get points towards future stays. The rooms are incredibly spacious and the corner rooms are nothing short of massive! I only had one issue with one room but a simple request and I was immediately moved to a much nicer room and was perfectly happy. The beds are incredibly comfortable and the amenities are what you would expect from a 4 star hotel. The staff is very professional and Abdu the bellman is a true gem. I happened to be staying there on my birthday and he was so kind to have a birthday cake and birthday card sent up to my room. It's the little touches like that that make all the difference. Plus the cake was delicious! I cannot stress this enough. TIP YOUR BELLMAN AND VALETS WELL! They work hard to make your stay a pleasant one. There is free parking in the parking garage but if you wish to valet, it is a bit pricey but at times, well worth it. I have had to valet my car on a few occasions. Matthew the valet (he works 3-11 Monday - Friday) will take of you very well and again, TIP HIM WELL. Be courteous, be kind and be professional and you will be treated like a visiting dignitary. The hotel is currently undergoing a remodel but even the current decor is excellent but the new rooms will just blow you away when they are complete. Opt for the green option and get extra points during your stay. I even asked for a microwave and again, not a problem, one was brought to my room and when you have to spend a week in a hotel at a clip, those little touches make it all worthwhile. The location is perfect for shopping and dining with the Cheesecake Factory and Shake Shack and Yauatcha literally a 2 minute walk and less than a 5 minute walk you can dine from anything from high end steakhouses to a simple burger joint and even those are delicious. My advice? Stay here. I spent 6 weeks here at the Westin Oaks and when I have to come to Houston again, you can guarantee that I will be staying here again. Collapse

There is nothing like travelling thousands of miles for almost 24 hours and arriving at your hotel at 5pm local time, where you have booked and pre-paid for a room many months before, only to be told that your room is not ready. I cannot even begin to imagine how a professionally run hotel can fail to have your room ready many hours after the other guests should have checked out, but it was not a great start to our stay. Overall I found this hotel unimpressive and overpriced: room service had a $4.50 delivery charge and a 25% service charge, meaning I paid over $50 for a salad and glass of wine; the hotel restaurant (which is actually in the Galleria) was pleasant but costly ($12 at breakfast for a small plate of fruit), and the valet parking was $39! We mostly self parked for free, but on a Saturday afternoon it was impossible to find a space in the free car park (probably because so much of the car park is reserved for valet parking) that we had no choice but to use the valet. If you self park there are steps down to the elevators, so this makes things tricky if you have cases, a pushchair or have mobility difficulties. The rooms were comfortable, but mine faced onto Westheimer road so was very very noisy day and night. Even with earplugs I was disturbed by the traffic. We went to a gala dinner in the hotel during our stay (which is why we stayed there) and I would say the chefs need some training in how to make a vegetarian meal: a plate of steamed vegetables and a heap of black beans is not an appropriate meal for a gala dinner! The only positive things I can say about this hotel is that it's well located if you want to shop in the Galleria, and the service offered by the staff in the restaurant was very good. The new elevator system - although it took a bit of getting used to - was very efficient and meant you had to wait very little time for an elevator. I am a regular visitor to Houston and overall I'd say this is the worst hotel experience I've had in the city. I won't be back. Collapse
