This hotel is at least an hours taxi drive from JFK airport, this will cost you around $70. Check in was smooth and quick. Our room was great, we looked out onto the Chrysler Building. Although the traffic was continuous, with constant car horns blowing and sirens this didn't stop us from having a good nights sleep (the beds were very comfy). It was my birthday during our stay, as a gift the hotel gave me a beautiful cake, chocolate strawberries and balloons, this was a lovely surprise. Thank You! The location of the hotel was good, it is approximately a 15 minute walk to Times Square, which is fine as its a pleasant walk. We did find the room snacks and drinks extremely expensive ($10 for a pack of m&m's!!)... i think this should be reviewed. Overall our stay here was pleasant and i would recommend it to a friend. Thank You Westin! Collapse

Our stay was excellent with professional and efficient service from check-in to check-out. The front desk agent, Bernardo, was very accommodating and ensured our stay started off well with a room with a view and complementary internet as there was a birthday being celebrated. The concierge, Sandra, took the time to provide us detailed information on where to go and how to get there for any and all of our needs. Housekeeping did a fantastic job - above and beyond. It's the little things, like noticing how much kleenex had been used and ensuring extra was left in the room (cold season in full-swing). They were very friendly and eager to assist with any needs. The location was wonderful - Grand Central station was just a few blocks down and there was a market there as well as pharmacies and access to the subway. We walked several times down to Times Square in under 20 min. There was shopping, restaurants, and sights just steps outside the hotel. The room itself had a view of the Empire State building and for a first-time visit, you couldn't ask for more at the Westin New York Grand Central. The room size was perfect, and everything was clean and the carpets even smelled like they had recently been washed. There was no noise to complain about from within the hotel despite being in close proximity to the ice machine. The AC and heat worked immediately when changed, and everything was in working order. The tub floor could use a little TLC, but aside from that, the room was excellent. It was myself and my mother travelling together and she has obscenely high standards - considering she had next to nothing to complain about - I'd say this hotel is in our top 10 stays thus far. This hotel is perfectly situated near Grand Central and Subway lines. The rooms are large and comfortable, well equipped with a desk, small sofa and easy chair. A coffeemaker with Starbucks coffee in the room is a great added touch. The hotel has a very well equipped gym, with towels, complimentary earphones, exercise balls, etc... the reception area is always crowded and lacks ambiance. The front desk service was friendly and efficient, and so was the smiling concierge. A great hotel for business, family, friends. Would not recommend as a romantic getaway, but otherwise a great place to stay when visiting the city. Collapse

Just returned from a long weekend in NY with my two sons to celebrate Mother's Day. I did a lot of research to find a suitable hotel and decided on the Westin Grand Central, and I'm so glad I did. The location is perfect, very close to the wonderful station, Chrysler Building, 5th Avenue, subway stops, Times Square, MOMA and Rockefeller. Room was a good size and clean. When we first arrived we were too early to check-in but we were able to leave the luggage - the woman on reception wasn't very welcoming though. Her attitude would be my only complaint about the place. However, when we did return to check in the receptionist (a different woman) was very polite and friendly :) I would definitely stay here again. There is a great restaurant across the street Osteria Laguna which is well worth a visit (don't be put off by the exterior) and fab sandwich bar next door Sandwicherie. Collapse

My husband and I stayed here this past weekend for my 30th birthday (this hotel left a sour taste for not only my birthday trip but also the city itself). We came from vancouver and our flight was an early morning flight. We called the hotel 2 days prior to leaving to confirm that we would be able to check in by noon. We were told that the LATEST we would be able to check in was noon and we confirmed this several times before hanging up. We arrived between 9:15-9:30am and immediately we were told by the lady at the front desk that we are "too early" for check in and that we could not check in until 3pm. We were obviously frustrated because we were told something else 2 days prior to arriving. My husband got a little angry however I was talking to the lady very calmy after travelling on a red eye flight with no sleep, but still she stuck her hand in my face and was talking over top of me saying that she was calling her manager because she did not want to deal with us. The manager was not very helpful as well. He basically told us that the hotel was "sold out" and that we could pay extra if we wanted to check in at at 12pm (we checked expedia and it actually wasnt sold out). We tried to cancel our stay but couldn't because it was prepaid. Thankfully we made a second attempt and spoke to a very nice lady who was polite and courteous and told us that she would help us check in by 1pm. We came to new York for a positive experience and corporate a celebration but this hotel put a damper on the trip. The staff are careless and rude with the exception of the lady who helped us get the room, and Rhonda who seems to work the night shift. Even the housekeeping staff at this hotel do the bare minimum. My husband left a pretty good tip every morning but we still came to the room half cleaned. We will never stay at a westin again....especially not this one and we will definitely warn our friends and family. Collapse
