First time in Venice and chose this hotel for it's location and that we got. The property faces the Grand Canal with an entrance down a winding set of streets. A water taxi from the airport is such easier than the boat. Style and service is typical European well trained staff. Our room was on the backside of the hotel with no view, older room in need of some refresh, but otherwise very comfortable. The hotel has a great bar which you can also dine in, which we preferred for dinner. Breakfast is splendid with tables overlooking the canal. really well done buffet with all that one could want, even us Americans! Your close to water transportation and shops galore Collapse
Why charge more for a non smoking room when this is a non smoking property

I booked two award rooms for two nights each and according to Starwood and the hotel website I had to use additional points to book a non smoking room. Upon check in I learned that the hotel is completely smoke free. I find it unacceptable that the hotel wants you to pay for a double upgrade for a non smoking room when in fact the hotel is smoke free. If you search prior reviews on this website you will see that they have been doing this for a number of years. This is a nice property and a 5 star hotel and I expect more from them than this type of activity. Collapse

We were here for 3 nights for our honeymoon and it turned out to be our favorite place of the 5 we visited! We were given an amazing room that was huge with a private deck that had table and chairs as well as chaise lounges where we would sit each evening with a glass of wine and just take in the beauty around us. The staff were kind and helpful, sending us champagne and even refilling the ice when we didn't finish the bottle to make sure it stayed cold. The location is spot on and walking distance to St. Marks and plenty of shopping and dining options. Our package included a breakfast buffet and it did not disappoint with a huge variety of options including hot items, cakes, breads, fruits, yogurts, etc. Without a doubt we would return here and enjoy another relaxing and peaceful vacation! Ah Venice, being my second trip here I was prepared for the beautiful city and being a Starwood Preferred Member I was familiar with the Westin chain of properties. The city although aging, didn't disappoint the Westin not so much. I was aware that space on the cramped island was tight and not to expect the spacious accommodations I received in Rome the week before. A travel agent made the arrangements at my request but after three attempts to confirm my reservation using their email addresses listed on their web site I didn't receive a reply. My only positive response was from a local Westin that was able to confirm my room on the world wide reservation system. They must have been to busy to respond. Upon Arrival the Westin was easy to find and in a premium location directly on the canal and close to the sq. and the vapporato station. The appointments were at par or better than most of the chains properties I have stayed at. You've seen the pictures of the hotel so I won't go into detail, very Renaissance. I didn’t take any meals in the hotel, I’ve been told that they are sumptuous, I passed opting to make the most of the city while visiting. I ate and drank well and much less expensive that it would have been at the hotel. The staff was indifferent, the front desk was efficient though not friendly. the bellman was quick dropping the bags on the floor and rapidly motioning to the hidden convinces, A/C , do not disturb light and the safe and was gone before I could get a tip from my pocket. The concierge was snooty and insulting in his manner and barley helpful. The dock side attendant was the only openly friendly staff I encountered. Venice on a whole was very accommodating and for the most part friendly and some times even warm. Management take note of how you could improve you guests stay and ratings. Now for the room, it was as they said it was. Two singles that made up a bed much smaller than our conventional queen size. The reservation was for a Grand Deluxe but their web site doesn’t list a room of that description, Double Deluxe???? The warning on their site “This room cannot accommodate extra beds.” doesn’t begin to tell the story. The room was as advertised as 12 – 36m2, I think that is roughly 226 square feet because that was what was listed on the American websites. Before you book this room class be sure you know exactly what 12 – 36m2 or 226 sq. ft. looks like. Reference the attached pictures. I had no basis for a complaint. Tired from traveling and some what satisfied with the view we ignored the inconvenience and music from the restaurant just below our window until late. Uncomfortable, unacceptable, the end of a month long trip we stayed for 3 nights. And left not feeling the luxury accommodations. To bad a hotel in such a convenient and gorgeous location deserved better than the staff had to offer. The hospitably industry is suppose to be just that, hospitable. The accommodations were a good reason the bellman ran for the door before we could object. Collapse
