We were able to stay at this resort 2 days after Irma came through Florida. Our original hotel was devistated by the hurricane and the Westin survived the hurricane. Yes there were problems and the staff handled itvwell. The resort fee was waived and contrary to past posts the WiFi is free. The restaurant was very pricey so we used uber to locate a more reasonable eatery. Well worth the stay. Collapse

My family had previous reservations at the Crowne Plaza, which were cancelled, and found a room available at the Westin online. When we arrived at the lobby, it did not seem to be busy at all. I approached the counter as soon as I walked in. I am going to outline the red flags that happened consecutively before management intervened: 1: We were never greeted, Im not talking about how is your day or was she smiling, I'm talking about "hello". 2: She tells me that I am getting a view of the river. I told her I booked an ocean view room. She starts arguing with me. She keeps telling me to pull up my confirmation. I asked her if I needed it to proceed with this transaction, she said no. So I told her to proceed. She kept waiting for me to look it up on my phone so that she can show me. By now I'm curious so I pull out my phone and I'm scrolling down. I see what she was talking about. She snatches my phone!!! Starts to read it to me and pointing to it like I can neither read nor follow directions. It took everything in me not to throat punch her. My kids just scattered at this moment. They knew better. A supervisor comes to try to rectify the situation. I told him what happened. Under no circumstances is that acceptable. He attempted to calm thing down the best he could. He gave us an ocean view room. When we get up to our room, the carpets are wet????!!! Why are the carpets wet??? There's a damp stale odor. And then I hear some dogs bark, and bark, and bark, and bark some more. It was horrific!!!! I was given some complimentary breakfast coupons which I was told by the restaurant were not valid. I will not go back. I'm very disappointed and quite disgusted. I'm a frequent W customer. This is stuff you see at a motel. People go to W's to get away from this. Maybe it's a Florida thing. Check in was quick. I paid to upgrade to a room with a canal view. This was not worth it, as my view was mostly of a car parking lot, although the canal was visible in the distance. Internet connection was good. NOTE: There is a $45 resort fee. I sat on a pool chair for about 15 minutes & my wife used the pool for about the same time. Not sure if this fee is mandatory. Starbucks is very nearby. The hotel lobby bar was very nice. It would have been nice to sit and drink at an outdoor bar, but it was too hot and humid. There are many restaurants and bars nearby. Although I did not feel unsafe, it would be wise to be careful at night, while walking near the hotel and towards the restaurants and bars. This applies to any city. Again, i did not feel unsafe, as we were only out until 9pm. Collapse
Do NOT book this hotel through a third party!

This visit left us disappointed and was not the experience we have come to expect from an SPG property. We booked online through a 3rd party. The room was next to the elevator and the view from the one window was a concrete wall, see picture. Yup, they try to dress it up with a trellis and some vines, but you'd never know there's a beautiful beach just a few yards away. When we saw the concrete wall, we remembered this same thing happened last time we booked through a 3rd party (hotels.com). Do not recommend to book thru a 3rd party unless you like the sound of an elevator shaft going up and down day and night and you enjoy looking at a concrete wall. We had to call the front desk because the bathroom was not clean when we got to our room. We ventured into Sirens Table for a cocktail. The bartender did not greet us and eventually came over and asked "do you want a drink"? She was unfriendly and honestly seemed like she wanted to be anywhere but at work. Not sure of her name--blond hair in a messy bun. Severe design flaw in the bar....the air conditioning vent is directly over the section where she was making drinks. The condensation was dripping into the ice and the garnishing fruits. Gross. Just too many missteps to overcome....with the many choices in the area, we won't be staying here again. Collapse
