We stayed at West Side Inn Amsterdam, they said it is a 20 minute walk from the centre of Am, so we decided to walk the first day. It is at least a 50 minute walk to town. Do not walk. They do not give you information on getting around we had to walk to Grand Central Station and go to Tourist Information to be told about which tram to get and which stop to take, and even then the hotel wasn't that's easy to find. The hotel itself was nice and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. They charge 10 euros for breakfast. The Ice Bar is great fun, lots of drinking and opportunity to take pictures. And the House of Bols was great, the museum was interactive and fun with free cocktails at the end in a nice bar. We loved making the bar tending video. At the airport, if someone approaches you about getting a taxi, say no. We took one as we had no idea where taxis were at the airport and they charged us 70 euros! With no meter and no receipt. The ride back cost 30, booked through the hotel. Also get a tram ticket valid for the time you stay, we got the 48 hour one for 12 euros and it was worth it. Amsterdam is a great place to just wander around and look in shops and gardens. Definitely worth going for a few days. Collapse

We always reserve several properties with a FREE CANCELLATION POLICY before we travel then sit together as a group to decide which one we will stay at. I reserved this property and 3 others before deciding against this one. This morning I notice that this hotel have placed a charge against my card in the amount of €107.80....this for a booking that was cancelled within less than one hour of booking two days ago. If they can attempt to do this, what other scams are they trying to pull? Stay well away people!!! Collapse

The hotel is currently undergoing major renovation which dampens my star rating. I ha very stayed at the old west side inn and was pleased with the service it offered. The hotel is still a favourite of mine and I believe after the renovation the hotel will definitely stand out from the crowd. Even though works are taking place the rooms are still airy, clean and a level up from comfortable, even though next to a main road the Dutch have ways of reducing the noise from these and we could barely hear any traffic. The tram ride is about 20 minutes into central station. Amsterdam has so much to offer and as I'm now almost that regular I could be classed as a resident there is still so much even I haven't seen. I live Amsterdam, it always reminds me not to take life too seriously. Collapse

Was looking to stay somewhere in Amsterdam for the annual IBC conference. Due to late notice on attending, we found prices were high and limited and when given the "West Side Inn" and it's website, although inflated seemed a good place to hang our hat for a few days. I wish I'd checked out TripAdvisor instead...rookie on my part! Got a taxi from the airport and on arriving knew I'd made a mistake as we couldn't even find it as the outside looked like a building site. I checked in and where I was expecting a 3 star bar and restaurant was hostel like facilities with pizza and bottled beer all that was available with no ability to add things to my room which when on a business trip make life painful with having to keep so many receipts. The only plus side was the staff, who seemed genuinely embarrassed by the state of the hotel and went above and beyond to try and make the stay bearable. The room itself was ok but I had two single beds (rather than a double) and the walls were paper thin so could hear a baby next door crying all night and workmen outside my window from 7am so was exhausted overnight for the purpose I had gone there for, getting only 3 hours sleep both nights. Whilst well intended gestures, having a free bottle of red wine and cookies to apologise for the hotel was not enough to compensate for not being informed the hotel was in such a poor state as corridors and stairwells were littered with cables and workmen walking past with various items that at one point nearly smashed me over the head. Maybe the place will be nice once finished but to not tell potential guests of the state it was in was poor and for the price paid nowhere near good enough. Collapse

.I booked to stay at the hotel after seeing how lovely the pictures looked on the website and how great the value for money was for this. However, it was only when we arrived at the hotel we were very let down by the quality and standards of the hotel to which we were so excited to stay in. Upon arrival the reception appeared pleasant and as advertised on the website, however once we had checked in and made our way to the rooms we were soon upset and disappointed at the standards and condition of the place. The whole hotel was under construction, at no point was this communicated to us prior to booking. I had booked 3 rooms, one twin and two doubles for a group of six guests. The two doubles were located on the very top floor where the building works appeared to be at its worse. The walls were made from temporary fixtures, the ceilings were terrible where cables and plugs were exposed and hanging in front of us. This was all very unsightly and we felt very disappointed and let down as we went to our rooms. The exposed/hanging cables in particular made us feel very unsafe to be around and we took extra precaution around these. The bedrooms were ok to stay in but again looked nothing like what the website was advertising. Your website shows a very modern room with clean walls and modern wood flooring. The rooms we stayed in did not look like this. The walls we very scuffed and dirty and we had a very thin brown carpet with stains and patches across it. The bathroom was better but both rooms on the top floor experienced times were the water in shower would suddenly turn scorching hotel and burn our skin. Also being on the top floor we would experience the room shaking and different intervals, this was heard several times during our stay and kept us awake. In my room in particular we went to look out the window, however one window had a massive wall in front of it and the other had site of the construction going on. The two rooms on the top floor had air con which was needed during this summer, but as we went to use them they didn’t work at all, leaving us in very hot rooms to sleep in. The corridors were dated, and kept very untidy during our stay. As you can see cleaning supplies and trolleys were left out and in our way throughout the three days. The carpets were old with rips in them and the walls were dated with empty pictures frames for ‘decoration’. Collapse

Hotel was fine and clean but administration of hotel or booking.com didn't let us know about construction when we were booking . We were there for a week. There has been construction while we stayed . All week we woke up with so many sounds, workers were starting at 8 am! There was no information about this construction. If they would have let us know about construction, we wouldn't book at this hotel. Also this construction will take about 8 or 9 months, my suggestions is be sure construction is done before you booking. Collapse
