We stayed at West Side Inn Amsterdam, they said it is a 20 minute walk from the centre of Am, so we decided to walk the first day. It is at least a 50 minute walk to town. Do not walk. They do not give you information on getting around we had to walk to Grand Central Station and go to Tourist Information to be told about which tram to get and which stop to take, and even then the hotel wasn't that's easy to find. The hotel itself was nice and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. They charge 10 euros for breakfast. The Ice Bar is great fun, lots of drinking and opportunity to take pictures. And the House of Bols was great, the museum was interactive and fun with free cocktails at the end in a nice bar. We loved making the bar tending video. At the airport, if someone approaches you about getting a taxi, say no. We took one as we had no idea where taxis were at the airport and they charged us 70 euros! With no meter and no receipt. The ride back cost 30, booked through the hotel. Also get a tram ticket valid for the time you stay, we got the 48 hour one for 12 euros and it was worth it. Amsterdam is a great place to just wander around and look in shops and gardens. Definitely worth going for a few days. Collapse

This was a 21st Birthday present for my partner of 5 years, this was our first holiday together and it was ruined by this hotel. After just looking on TripAdvisor I understand others have had the same experience - this experience of which was not at all shown on your website. We are looking to be fully refunded for this terrible experience which breached H&S. I will try and upload images, we literally had to dodge and move past the builders as they were working - a clear breach of H&S of our well being. They were doing electrical work over our heads while we waited for the lift. Dust & Cleanliness The room first of all looked nothing like the images, I mean nothing at all. I unfortunately did not get an image of the full room. We tried to stay out of the room as much as possible due to it being horrible. It was a bed for the night and simply that, even for that we receive bites from the unclean sheets. I previously worked as the marketing assistant for a four star hotel and I know how a hotel can make a room look nicer but this was false advertising completely. First of all the T.V did not work, the back of the remote was missing and the surfaces were thick with dust. I even ran my finger down the bedside draw on the first day and behold it was there at the end too. We stayed on the fourth floor and could only get the lift to the third, so I assume the cleaners would have to do the same and as such we had to dodge the cleaning trolleys at the top of the stairs each and every day. The room absolutely stunk and we had a lovely view of a wall, so little sunlight could get in. It just felt dirty when we arrived, the carpet was filthy and the bed / side of the bed was stained quite badly. I understand they have a lot of rooms to clear but this was simply neglected. Due to running to a tight schedule, as in we had plenty of events booked in, we simply did not have time to stay, complain and change rooms. Nonetheless the room should be cleaned and hygienic for use for the entire stay. The bed was big but we only had a single pillow - literally half the size of a normal pillow and again this smelt quite bad. We returned late each evening and could not argue and decided to wait until the end of the trip to complain. We very rarely saw anyone in reception and if we did they were serving food so it was not appropriate to complain again with a tight schedule. Bed bugs & Un-Diagnosed Conjunctivitis This paragraph and the next paragraph are the most shocking, we read just before leaving on TripAdvisor that there was an issue with bed bugs. This post was from a few years ago and we surely thought it would be sorted and at the time we saw the review it was too late to cancel. After the first nights stay myself and my partner had bites all over our body, please find the images as evidence. At around 13:00 the following day, my partner noticed I had green discharge from my eyes along with red eyes, my partner soon followed with the same symptoms. After another nights sleep - I'll put that lightly as it was very noisy - my partner woke up with green fluid around her left pupil and after research and my partners knowledge as a nursery nurse it looked like conjunctivitis. We did not get this confirmed by a doctor, again we had a busy schedule and we simply both wore glasses rather than contact lenses. I still have sore bite marks all over my body, from the first nights sleep until now they are still raised and only appeared after our first nights sleep. Clean bedding is a simple need for a hotel and lets be honest if you had complaints about this prior you would make sure it did not happen again. H&S When construction work is completed you expect it to be blocked off and not for a customer to literally walk and weave their way through it. We walked past builders all the way through the building and they stopped work when we walked past. A few of them wore hard hats, what would happen if something fell when they were working, we did not have any hard hats on? This is basic H&S for a hotel and it was simply ignored - again this comment is backed up with a recent TripAdvisor comment. The stairs had very little to block the elements, and did not feel very stable when we walked up them. Good job we did not have heavy bags or had a disability when walking up the stairs day in and out. The first morning we stayed at the hotel for breakfast, I really wish I recorded the journey as it felt like a marathon going up and down stairs along with dodging the workers. The breakfast was extortionate to say the least and was very scarce, never the less we can't complain massively about that as they can follow breakfast the way they wish. The hot food was only beans, bacon and egg, that was it. We were not told or advised about the construction work prior to our visit, there is a tiny sentence on the website which does not justify what we experienced. Noise Most evenings we were welcomed to the sound of loud music blasting down the hallway, again being shattered from the day we put the single pillow over our head and tried to sleep. The people staying in the room were loud and sounded like you would not like to mess with them, I did not want the hotel saying it was us complaining about them. Room & Common room features The website states that there is a common room for drinks, yes there is but for a charge. Our room had no kettle, fridge or anything apart from a safe - which surprisingly worked! After a long day and returning to the hotel at 23:30, the local shop was closed and I needed water. With no option within the room for a clean drink, I had to purchase a bottle of water for 2.50 Euros. We went to the shop the following morning and the exact same bottle of water was 0.40 euros, that is a disgusting inflation on water. Being forced to drink that as there were no other facilities available. To put that into perspective, the most expensive bottle of water we found in the city center was 2.00 euros so that shows the inflation. The smell of the room stunk even with the window open, I will never forget the smell of sweaty feet that badly. The mattress was stained, I'm not sure if it was blood or not but it was missed each and every day of cleaning. Check-out & Discussion with manager We had a 12:30 flight back to Newcastle and had a decent walk / train journey to get to the Airport. Upon check-out they asked how was the stay, we mentioned our thoughts and he simply said "hmm yes, but how was your trip to Amsterdam?". He bypassed our complaint completely and did not apologise, due to our tight schedule of getting to the airport we could not argue with him. For the sake of your health do not stay with this hotel, you may think this is only a comment but trust me on this one do not stay here. Collapse

Our friend chose this hotel with little research into it, and sadly we should have looked at reviews beforehand because BOY was this hotel a mistake! I knew we would be in for a bad time from the moment we hopped off the tram - bad area with a man approaching us and demanding cigarettes. The reception and dining area as we walked in was totally misleading; it gives off the impression of a really fancy place with good furniture. Upon trying out the toilets I began to feel a sense that it was downhill from there. Our rooms were nice, albeit the fact they forgot to accommodate for me and my partner so we were left with two single beds and another bed for our friend in the room - talk about privacy!! The shower room really annoyed me, the fan did not work and there was no ventilation as it was in an enclosed, small area. Upon arrival I was met with a towel that had some interesting brown stains. Thankfully the reception staff were very helpful and provided me with a new towel straight away. If you are thinking of coming soon here, please dont. Unfortunately we paid over £1500 for a stay in a construction site, being woken up by builders as early as 8am!! Then had cleaners come in at 9am the second day whilst we were still asleep, too so I mean it's a great place for the early birds. I think the only thing that stopped this place from being terrible was the attitude of all the staff - they were incredibly helpful with our complaints, ensured our bags were kept safe and dealt with problems quickly. Another point is the food is really good! The chefs are brilliant; I would recommend the pizza and pasta. There is also a great selection of cakes and chocolate as well as a 24 hour cigarette machine and (pricey) selection of alcohol. (But you might find yourself with more money than you thought because I don't think the guys behind the bar can really do maths lol!) Collapse

The hotel is also very conviently near the tram stop for the 2, making travelling into the city centre much easier. You can also buy a pass for all of the public transport at the hotel - I recommend you do this! We paid 17€ for the 72hr pass and it was more than worth the money. We bought food from the little kitchen/counter next to reception and it was always made quickly and tasted great. Despite the renovations we were never bothered at night or early in the morning. This hotel really shouldn’t be open for business, it’s basicilly a building site. Half the hotel has been knocked down and the rest is quite shabby. I’m sure it will look very nice when finished but I feel it’s very cheeky to remain open and carry on with major building works taking place. We were on the 4th floor so had to take a lift to the 3rd and then climb a make shift stairway to our floor. At the end of which is an open door with a 4 storey drop! Workman are carrying out work throughout the building and there appears to be very little in way of Health and Safety protocol. The rooms look very tired and basic whilst none of the rooms have air-con which can make them very stuffy. The trams into Amsterdam are about 10 mins walk away and get you there in about 20 mins so it is fairly conveniently located. We stayed for two nights and had a great time in Amsterdam itself but my advice would be to avoid this particular hotel, at least until the re-building is completed. Collapse

The contact number mentioned in the site was not working. I tried from outside of Netherlands as well as from schiphol airport. I wanted to check the availability of airport shuttle which was mentioned in the site. But later I got reply to my mail that there is no shuttle service arranged by the hotel, we had to arrange ourselves for the shuttle and pay for it. Finally I ended up in taking a taxi. The room was not worth money. There was no window. One side of the room was built with plywood and not covered properly. Location was good. It will be good if you have all details of the hotel else it is little troublesome. Collapse
