The positives - absolutely beautiful old building, friendly staff trying to do their best. That's the positives out of the way. We stayed over for 3 nights whilst we attended a TEFL course in one of the many conference rooms. First of all our room was quite small, it was clean and tidy but it was extremely noisy. It was situated overlooking a main road meaning that we were unable to open our windows due to outside noise and there was no air conditioning. As we stayed in the middle of a heatwave this was horrible and we were unable to sleep. Our main complaint, however, revolved around the Stables pub and the service and treatment of customers there - this despite numerous previous complaints on here and the managers assurances that the problems in Stables were being addressed the service was nothing short of abysmal. So, after queuing for around 20 minutes to order food we were told they had stopped doing food (this at 8pm after being told we could order up until 845pm). No apology, staff very rude and abrupt, just said the 'Chef' had refused to do any more food as they were busy. The menu is rather limited and basic - wraps, burgers and pizza - so I would imagine that anyone with basic knowledge of a microwave and oven could prepare the food so why they needed a 'Chef' I'm not sure. Anyway, we went to the hotel reception to complain and were met by lots of angry customers, an employee in tears and another employee who went to look for a manager (she did not find him/her). After a few minutes we were offered 20% off food in the restaurant which we had no option really but to accept. The Convive restaurant is rather flashy and apparently they have just spent a lot of money refurbishing it. Maybe they could have spent some of that money on staff training as things deteriorated further. First of all they had no idea that we had been offered a discount and had to go and check this - all rather embarrassing. Then, after waiting a long time, we were presented with the wrong order as were the couple behind us. I was given chicken, having ordered tagliatelle, my husband was correctly given lasagne which they took back. After another long wait my husband was re-presented with his (now very dried out) lasagne which had clearly just been reheated and i was given a large mound of - spaghetti (maybe they do not know the difference between tagliatelle and spaghetti??). Our food was absolutely horrible but really by this time we just wanted to get out of the place. The final insult was that the restaurant also got our bill wrong, overcharging us until we pointed this out to them. Breakfast at the hotel was actually ok - large hot and cold buffet selection. Again, they need to train the staff and maybe inform male waiters not to address female customers as 'darling'! One final tip - if you are unlucky enough to be staying in this hotel do not dine there, try Lavanta restaurant literally 10 minutes walk from Fawlty Towers/Weetwood, it is the polar opposite of this place - professional service, great food and you won't be disappointed. Unfortunately we needed to find accommodation so that we could attend a family funeral. We found this hotel on the internet and it looked amazing and was reasonably priced. We were treated very well by the check in staff and the room was small but had a large bathroom and was bright and clean, with everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable. There was plenty to eat at breakfast and it was of a good standard. The courtyard beer garden was also very welcoming on an unusually warm evening Collapse

Stayed hear from Friday to Sunday as part of my wife's birthday present. The hotel is a lovely place with very friendly staff and helpful information to make our weekend go smoothly. Our room No.29 was very small but bathroom was good size and whole room was spotless. Breakfast is very good with vast selection from cereals to fresh fruit or full English with proper pots of tea and coffee. We had an evening meal in the restaurant Convive and whilst the food is ok it was not that plentiful. We didn't have a starter as the deserts on our tv menu in our room sounded delicious, unfortunately the restaurant menu is different and the desserts now on offer did not appeal to us so this was a shame. We stayed here because it was also the pickup point for the Emmerdale Village tour so it was very convenient, breakfast then straight on the coach. This is a very nice hotel, quiet rooms and very convenient for the bus into Leeds for the shopping and we would stay here again. Competive pricing and good service makes this a good place to stay for a weekend in Leeds, which if touring the city centre you would need the weekend as so much to see. Collapse

We have been guests at Weetwood Hall on numerous occasions over the last 12-15 years and have always had pleasant and enjoyable stays. The latest trip was no exception. Spotlessly clean and quiet, comfortable room in the Manor House. Good hearty breakfast on each morning which allowed me to build up energy for the subsequent shopping bag carrying exercise around Leeds wonderful shops. (I'm sure that is the only reason my Mrs brings me along...that, and paying the bill) There was however one note of discord on this trip. Two straightforward meals ordered in the STABLES BAR on our second night took a full 50 minutes to arrive despite a polite reminder from us at 30 minutes and another (not quite so polite) reminder at 48 minutes. And, you have guessed I am sure, when it arrived the whole thing was a cold as the grave. The young male bartender was extremely apologetic. On the other hand the young female bartender who had taken our order and received our reminder did not appear to give a hoot. I think some management intervention may be due there. Anyhow, we left and finished the evening off with a delicious late curry at DEEVA, in Pudsey (q.v.) though the taxi ride there was quite hair raising...but that's another story. We will continue to stay at Weetwood Hall...the hotel is great...but perhaps we won't be having our food from the Stables Bar in future. Collapse
