My husband and I popped into the Walnut tree hotel on Monday morning around 9.40am to see if we could get a coffee in the bar/restaurant area. This was our first time in the hotel having lived in North Petherton for the past 5 years and we were very impressed when we walked through the door. However our opinion soon changed when we were met by a very rude member of staff. As we went to to walk into the restaurant we stopped to let her through to which she turned back and rather rudely said can I help you? When we said we were just wondering whether we could get a quick coffee she huffed and told us that breakfast was finished and looked at us like we had asked for something extravagant. I have never in my life been made to feel so uncomfortable and can’t believe how rude this lady was to us. It is fair enough that we can’t get a coffee if breakfast is over and if we were just told that in a friendly manner then it wouldn’t have been a problem. For all this lady knew we could have been guests at the hotel which is worrying if she is like that with people. My husband has family who live far away and when we walked through the doors of the hotel I said to my husband that this would be a very nice place for them to stay. Unfortunately after our experience that morning we will not be using the services which is a shame as this would have been perfect. To top it all off I sent an email to the hotel on Monday complaining about the shocking welcome we received and I haven’t even received an acknowledgement of the email. Funnily enough on the website it says that the hotel welcomes any feedback and that it is extremely important to them. Yet the manager can’t even be bothered to send me an email regarding my complaint. I had only ever heard good things about this hotel and so I’m really shocked at the poor welcome I received on Monday and the lack of acknowledgement. Collapse

on recommendation from a friend we booked for the post carnival dinner for the first time, but not the overnight package also on offer. At 7pm we were all turned out into the rain to watch from the street and when our elderly friend was soaked through and too cold to continue we sought sanctuary in the bar receiving strict instruction not to peer through the curtains at the remaining floats because the staff didn't want the people outside to know they were open and to come inside. Considering it was a ticket only evening and there was a steward at the barriers across the car park entrance stopping people from entering the hotel it seemed inconsiderate to turf paying customers outside on such a wet night to stand for 2 hours in the rain. The food afterwards was average and served like old fashioned school dinners, were we had to queue up 3 times to be served each course from a row of tables in the narrow corridor. Collapse

We can only sing the praises of the Walnut Tree. We only booked a few days in advance of our stay as my husband has been quite poorly and has to use a wheel chair but can manage to walk a few steps. Our booking was by telephone and handled very efficiently. We were told that the only rooms available were up about 4 stairs so this didn't come as a shock. our room was No.19 really large and comfortable and very quiet. On the Friday evening we attended a drinks and canapé reception followed by a Gala Dinner all of a very high standard. We were told on booking that our supper on the Saturday evening would have to be after the Carnival at approx. 9.30pm. We asked during the Friday evening if we could possibly eat at the earlier sitting of 5pm and although very full our request was granted. This supper was also excellent the staff working extremely hard, it was buffet style but expertly handled. We'd also pre booked our seats in the Grandstand to watch the Carnival thanks to the receptionist at the time of booking. Both our breakfasts were also excellent with lots of choices. The cost for the two nights was about £100 per person per night but proved to be worth every penny. Many thanks to the Walnut Tree's staff from Chamber Maids to Manager all were first class. We travel so much these days and stay in hotels all over, what a wonderful stay we had in the Wallnut Tree Hotel. We booked our stay in the Hotel isptself after passing by in the middle of October and got the feel of something special then. We had the Carnival Package that included a meal on the Friday and Saturday evenings and breakfast on Saturday and Sunday morning. A drinks and nibbles reception was held before the Friday meal. We stayed in the Jubilee Suite. A wonderful rood with a separate lounge, bedroom and bathroom, plenty of space, clean and comfortable. It also had a balcony. The service was very friendly. The meals were very good, proper portion sizes so you did not feel uncomfortable afterwards, tasty too, The drinks reception was a great way to mingle with your fellow guests and we learned more about the carnival at this event. Not wishing to single out anyone as the were all great. We have placed our names down to book the same for next year. Collapse

A group of 4 of us (Kearle) pre booked for the Carnival meal last night and we were not disappointed. The organisation was excellent and from the minute we arrived to when we left, we were very well looked after. The staff were all very helpful and friendly throughout our visit. The food was very good and plenty of choice. The tables were cleared efficiently after every course. We will definitely be booking for next year and would request the same table as it was by the window! This was excellent value for money and a great start to the evening. Thank you very much.
