Great hotel with a few minor flaws

Great hotel and staff . Pools great. Location fantastic and ability to use next door Hilton facilities a bonus - however resort fee and mandatory valet parking charges marred the experience. Also food/beverage a bit on the pricey side.

I decided to take my wife for a birthday weekend since she loves staying at this Waldorf. Made a reservation for three days this past Feb 10th weekend and was looking so forward to a relaxing weekend. I went ahead and did prior reservations for a massage for her at the spa for Saturday evening before dinner at there signature restaurant Bull & Bear. Everything was planned out perfectly. When we arrived Friday afternoon from the guys at the valet to the young ladies who took care of us at check in everything was perfect. Since we had been driving for a few hours we were exhausted and went straight to the room and took a small nap and got ready and spent the evening at Epcot. The next day when we were having room service I noticed that the room was a bit run down. Three of the four dining room chairs had stains and not small ones either. When my wife went to get ready I sat in the sofa and noticed that the front of the sofa where you place your back had a significant tear on it as if someone had ripped it previously. I would have complained but since it was my wifes birthday, I did not want to make a big deal of it by having to move to another room etc. But,believe me for the rate that I was paying I did expect so much more from the Waldorf. When we got back from a day out in Orlando my wife was looking forward to her spa appointment and off she went as soon as we got back. She returned at approximately an hour in a half later from the appointment visibly upset. I asked what had happened and she said that it was the best massage that she had gotten in years, but she felt embarrassed and was beyond upset. She had asked the attendant at the Spa for makeup remover since she was going to use the Sauna. The young lady told her that they ran out and for her to use water instead. I, being a man even know that water will not remove makeup. The attendant made no effort in supplying any type of remover. My wife then told me that she had to walk trough the Waldorf and get into a packed elevator at prime time basically looking like a raccoon since the makeup was running all down her eyes. She was embarrassed that she had to go trough this and that people were laughing at her. This put such a huge damper on our evening that she didn't even want to go to celebrate her birthday at there Bull & Bear restaurant downstairs. When I received my survey a couple of days later and I let them know about what had specifically happened. I got a response a few days later only from the Spa not the hotel, stating that they were sorry about the incident and that the Spa always has plenty of makeup remover etc for situations like this. Obviously that was not the case. Concerning all the other issues with the room that I had brought up,no one else ever contacted me from the Waldorf. It is a shame that all this happened on her special weekend considering that this is our go to Hotel when we visit Orlando. Unfortunately it might be time to look elsewhere. Collapse

Overall, an extremely nice hotel. Here is what I didn't like: 1) got quoted $384 per night, but after you add in resort fees, taxes and valet parking, room costs more like $515 per night. 2) Got coffee at Peacock Alley (lobby bar). It was awful. Considering the atmosphere and expense, you would think that they would serve good coffee. Nope. Restaurant downstairs was a bit better, but still disappointing for coffee. 3) the Waldorf is connected to the Hilton. I am a Hilton Honors Member for 20 years. I was there for 2 nights and the Italian restaurant inside the Hilton was booked solid for both nights. For $500 per night, you would think that you could make a reservation to get into the Italian restaurant on property. Here's what I did like: 1) Zeta Sushi bar in the Hilton was excellent. We don't eat much sushi, but the food was outstanding. 2) Valet and bellmen were very accommodating and helpful. Tip them well. 3) the grounds were impeccable, and the view we had over the golf course was very nice. 4) good fitness Center - lots of cardio. Treadmills, ellipticals, a few bikes, and some free weights. 5) downstairs restaurant was very good for breakfast. Ordered the salmon eggs benedict and it was delicious. Waiter was excellent, too. 6) rooms were clean, stylish, and very comfortable. Crisp sheets. Powerful A/C. So, overall, we enjoyed our stay there. It is a beautiful hotel with some outstanding features. Would I repeat? Probably not for the cost. Just didn't feel it was worth $500 per night. I guess the thing that miffed me most was not being able to get into the La Luce restaurant. Maybe they should have told us to make restaurant reservations when we booked the room. Collapse

I rated 4 stars because the service was excellent. Everybody very ,very friendly and accommodating. The rooms are dated and are showing wear. The room sink was clogged and they fixed immediately. Pool Area: The pool furniture is all stained and ripping in some spots. The pool area does not get picked up enough during the day. Cups , paper ect. ect from guest. The pool itself is not really clean if you look close all kinds of floating things. Nasty!! But all in all the food was fantastic and the place is very comfortable just needs updates bad. Collapse

Beautiful hotel with great location close to Disney but also nestled away from the chaotic streets near other hotels. Had a view overlooking the golf course (see pic). The food was excellent and the staff are attentive and nice, although service can be slow (placed on hold several times for room service, waited for 10min to get service in the Peacock lounge and ended up just walking to the bar). The fitness facility is excellent and pool area is a great place to relax. Collapse
