We celebrated my daughter's sweet 16 this past weekend at the Waldorf Astoria and the hotel and staff far surpassed our expectations. Kevin Sheft, the guest relations manager, went above and beyond to ensure that my daughter's birthday was spectacular. This was a weekend my family will never forget. We look forward to celebrating more birthdays there in the future!! My son is counting the days until he has a milestone birthday so we can return! Collapse

A weekend stay at the Waldorf was rich in history, but not in luxury. The property is in dire need of updating and will close next year for that very reason. We found the rooms to be dingy and worn out, with holes in the bedclothes, an outdated bathroom, and limited modern amenities. It seems the managers have neglected standard maintenance due to the impending closure... a sad disservice to this iconic landmark. A shout out to security guard Vasser (Vassar? Apologies if misspelled!) who found us wandering around in the lobby examining some of the artifacts on display. He offered to lead us on a hotel tour - such a treat! He was clearly passionate about the history of the building and eager to share it with us. We were escorted through the grand meeting spaces (all open to the public on non-event days) where our guide pointed out highlights in the architecture and design. Our tour culminated in the ballroom where the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner had been held just days prior - a room that is still a sight to behold despite obvious wear-and-tear. The tour was the highlight of our stay, and Vasser is a wonderful ambassador for the hotel (promote him!). We certainly hope his enthusiasm for the property is shared by its new owners and that they will preserve the old-world grandeur that made the Waldorf famous! Collapse

We stayed at the Waldorf for my nieces 18th birthday celebration weekend - ahead of the trip we were contacted by Laura Walkom ( Director of Head of house) to offer assistance in planning of our weekend - I explained the reason for the event and that we had most bases covered but Laura gave us good information on what else the hotel could provide which was extremely helpful and useful. Our stay was wonderful very comfortable rooms and my niece was delighted to be greeted with Chocolates , cup cakes and a Waldorf Bear and card with best wishes from the staff - Such a nice surprise. Our stay was wonderful , staff all polite and very helpful - we could not fault the hotel at all and had a fabulous family weekend there - tilt next time ! Thanks to all at the Waldorf! Collapse

My husband surprised me for my birthday weekend to a trip to NYC to see Lion King. Nice hotel but totally not worth the cost. We arrived on October 22 & stayed in room 1915. Positives: the ambience of the hotel is nice. The beds are heavenly. For the most part very nice staff. Negative: room wasn't ready. After an 1.5hrs of waiting (3:45pm - 45 mins after check in) room still wasn't ready. After several visits to concier was assigned another room. Our room was stuffy and warm. Had the thermostat on 65 but after several hours it was still stuffy. Called front desk but the first phone didn't work. We were informed by front desk that since it's cold outside they turn the air conditioning off (this is an older building and only has one heating and cooling system. Even though you have a thermostat in your room it's really not controlled by your room)?!? And was offered a fan or the option of opening the window. Seriously, I'm staying at the Waldorf Astoria an have to open windows? Rooms are outdated (not unless you like the Vintage feel). You're honestly paying for the name & the lobby ambience. It was nice to say that I stayed at the Waldorf Astoria. But if I had to do it all over again I would pick another hotel. Glad they're closing for many renovations. Collapse
