As Chicagoans, we book a weekend get-away during Jan or Feb to shake the winter duldrums. As Hilton Members, we have thoroughly enjoyed all of our previous stays at the Drake and Conrad. This year we decided to treat ourselves and stay at the Waldorf (also a Hilton brand). This is the place we will return again and again. From the warm greetings upon arrival (inside a circular drive - a rarity in Chicago that swept us away from the busy street), the professional and charming check-in overview (Ms. Nattery) and outstanding premise and food services. A 15th floor suite (balcony and fireplace) was the perfect setting. We did not want to depart. We opted for a romantic slow entrance. Before going up to our room where the luggage was delivered as we checked-in, we visited Bernards for quite conversation and a slow scotch. While not as posh as the lobby area, the steps provided a bit of grandness and a table at the elevated bar area was cozy. The guests in Bernards were respectful of the subdued tone, a welcomed relief as it was Friday 5:30 pm. Off to the room. Beautiful, uncluttered elegance. Stepping out on the balcony, we smiled at seeing the glowing Rush Street of our youth including the historic Esquire Theater marquee and the newer fashion additions of Barneys, lululemon, etc. While it was cheery and energetic urban view we took up camp inside our suite. The double-door wide entrance to the bath area (off the dressing room) heightened that room's spaciousness including a soaking tub and separate shower. The bedroom and living room were perfect. I've spent too much text already so I'll try to be brief in my summary. We both agreed the fireplace, especially since we stayed in, is what we'll think of first when we stir up memories of wonderful times together. The room-service dining exceeded our expectations. We shared our entrees of Pappardelle with Mushrooms (perfect - I'm looking up recipes hoping to duplicate) and a simple but perfectly prepared pan-seared (I believe) tender chicken breast with tiny roasted potatoes gathered on the pan sauce, firm-but-tender-enough broccolini with a tiny snap of sea salt. My husband commented on the chicken with every bite. Hate to admit it but we later ordered their brownies with ice cream. It came with several toppings. Fun sprinkles, chocolate syrup, chocolate shavings, and the sugarless whipped cream the provided a balance against the sweetness. Regrets that will be corrected during our next stay: the spa has a female-only sauna or steam room which would have been wonderful in the morning or late-afternoon. Plan a little time to read on the tempting chaise lounge in the bedroom that looks out over Rush Street (2 floor to ceiling windows) in the bedroom. Stay longer. Collapse

The staff were generally unfriendly and dismissive and they were not helpful in resolving any problems but created chaos. Collapse

We went to the Waldorf for a last hurrah before our baby comes in March and could not have asked for a better place to stay. Staff is super helpful and the location is great, too! We felt like we were in the middle of everything and were able to walk to a lot and use Ubers only occasionally. Definitely a place we will be going back to! Collapse

The Waldorf Astoria Chicago on Walton is one of my all time favorite hotels and the best for a staycation over the holidays. The service is impeccable. The Astoria suite w/ fireplace and terrace is 915 sq ft and perfect size for 2. The bathroom has a wonderful large soaking tub with a TV in the mirror which makes for a great relaxing soak. There is a separate shower and toilet, nice for privacy. There are his and hers closets with plenty of drawer space. The spa is amazing - a great spot whether staying at the hotel or enjoying a relaxing spa day int he city. Bernard's is worth the meal or a drink at the bar and I am especially fond of their weekend brunch. In room dining - try their cheese and charcuterie, heirloom beet salad, and braised beef short rib. The best shopping in Chicago is right out the door...Barney's, Prada, St. Laurent and wonderful restaurants in Gold Coast. The Waldorf Astoria Chicago is a must stay! Collapse

Stayed for 2 nights over MLK weekend holiday with wife and our 6 year old daughter. Last stay was years ago and within an hour of arriving we were asking ourselves why have we not stayed here again sooner? Everything from the greeting by the doorman and valet at the car, to checkout was just fabulous. We appreciate the large area to pull the car into which is rare for hotels in this part of Chicago. Service top notch all the way like it always has been. We've been coming here since it was the Elysian and it is still just as good. We have another stay in Chicago coming up next month at another hotel, and while here at the Waldorf, cancelled that reservation to book to stay the Waldorf again instead. Thank you for a great stay and we're looking forward to coming back again next month. Collapse
