Hotel/Location and Berlin. Waldorf Astoria is relatively new. It's not in the touristic center, Mitte, however, it's in Kuda'am minutes away from Kurfurstendamm shopping which is the best in Berlin. The hotel offers the largest, most modern rooms in the city...perfect for families or US travelers not used to tiny European rooms. Service: Immaculate. Perfect. On-Point! From doorman to the front desk and beyond (spa, pool, restaurants, room service, concierge, bellboys) is how it should be at a luxury hotel (all things considered, in Germany)! Restaurant: We had breakfast each day.....plenty to chose from...eggs, pancakes, etc. And then you have a full buffet breakfast with plenty of variety. Coffee/teas....cereals, hot dishes, and then bread selection (though no toaster!). Concierge: A big help....arranged for a private tour of Berlin which was fabulous! Sauna/Steam/Pool: Again by European standards, it is modern, well maintained and a heaven (after a busy day). Overall a comfortable hotel in the city center....close to the subway and the bus stop (incase you wanted to take public transport). Collapse

I only spent one night at this property during my long weekend in Berlin, I opted for the Hilton Berlin for the other nights, due to its location, but when I next return to the city, my entire stay will be here. Having not experienced the Waldorf brand before, I rated Conrad for the best service offered in the Hilton group, but I have been converted, as what makes this hotel, is its customer service, which one can only be described as incredible. My room, was fabulous, with a lovely view of the Zoo, and station. Special touches such as the mirror TV in the bathroom, marble finish, and clever, master controls for the lighting, topped it off. Returning after a day exploring West Berlin, I had intended to shower and head out for the evening, but quickly changed my mind when I walked into the room, which had been turned down, lighting set, relaxing music playing! I opted for a long, relaxing bath in the beautiful bathroom, then kicked back with a movie, and room service dinner, even a simple cheese burger was impressive! After an early night, I slept for nearly 10 hours something which I never get to enjoy, waking refreshed and happy! The concierge team at this property excel, special note of thanks to Phillipe, who both before and during my stay assisted answering my queries, questions and, when you have great people like him, you don't need google!!! The only reason I did not give the property 5 stars, was due to the issue I had when checking in, and the lack of the standard Gold member upgrade I expect and normally receive. I had 2 cards declined on check in, which although the receptionist in no way made me feel awkward, I did naturally get embarrassed, especially as both cards had funds available to service a month long stay, never mind one night! On speaking to my bank, Halifax, they could see the declined transactions, and explained that they automatically decline charges, when chip and pin is not being used, and that had the receptionist used the "card holder not present" option, when keying in the details, the transactions would have been authorised. In fairness, my Santander card worked fine, and every bank has its own rules, but maybe a training issue for your front office team? As for the upgrade, normally I would challenge this, but after the card / payment experience, I just wanted to get away from the front desk as quickly as possible, so I let it go unmentioned. Once in my room, I checked the availability of the hotel for that night, and rooms of all grades where available and advertised, so I am not sure why my loyalty to the brand wasn't rewarded on this occasion, but given the room on the 7th floor, I was allocated met my needs, and particularly my biggest preference, smoking, I stayed happy! Thank you to the amazing team at the Waldorf, where you have set a new standard in terms of service, for a dedicated Hilton fan. Collapse
A jewel of a hotel.

The Waldorf is probably the crowning glory of a resurgent West Berlin - on the doorstep of Bikini Berlin shops and a currently rejuvenating surrounding Ku'Dam area. It's done to a lavish standard - in some places teetering on glitzy/tacky, but most of the time steering to the right side of opulent but tasteful. It does make the whole space visually arresting and you feel like the designers have cared about creating a special space and it's a joy to stay in. The rooms have great views out and are bright and sunny and decorated in great fabrics, materials and colours - plenty of eye candy in the rooms. What's great about it being new is lots of charging points - they've considered that carefully, and nice amenities and bathroom design too - open it up or keep it private. The breakfast room is airy and busy - can't imagine it would have worked as a Michelin starred restaurant previously - and the breakfast is pretty thorough and nicely executed - though why you'd have a full sized juice bar with no fresh raw juice unless you ask for it separately is a total mystery in a hotel like this. The bar is a nicely decorated space for evening drinks, though probably a bit removed from the main body of the hotel - it was reasonably buzzy when we went at 7pm on a Friday night, but not sure it would be at other times. All the staff are great - check-in was effortless and professional, a request for some non-caffeine tea bags in the room was extremely swiftly and efficiently dealt with, and everyone has a friendly demeanour in their interactions with guests. It really is the complete package so would genuinely recommend it. Collapse

Excellent stay with knowledgeable concierge and attentive staff. Heated tile floors in the bathroom, wonderful buffet breakfast, and in a great part of town near the KaDeWe. The hotel is right near both the S-bahn and U-bhan stations.

Would probably stay somewhere else that included more for that amount of money. Collapse
