I arrived at the Waldorf a couple of days after the horrible attack at next-door Breitscheidplatz just before Christmas 2017 and in January 2017. It was my sixth visit since the opening and the hotel keeps getting better and better. Check-in went fast and smooth. It always makes you feel welcome when staff retrieves your preferences from earlier visits. I booked a King-Deluxe and I had asked for a room with view away from the Breitscheidplatz. A staffmember helped me with my bags and accompanied me to the room. When the hotel had just opened I felt as if some staffmembers were to busy with other things, but this time throughout my stay all hotel doormen and members from the bellstand were very welcoming and caring. And just right now I expected them to be busy with other more serious things than bringing a bag upstairs.... My room was very spacious. Large seating area and a good size diningtable. The views from the room are spectacular. I highly recommend booking a room with a view, as it appears to be that these rooms are located in a sort of corner, offering extra views than the regular rooms. It's amazing to see the Zoo from your bed, sometimes you can even spot animals. The bathroom is spacious and spotless. A great place to indulge in and enjoy a bath. Roomservice has a good variety of dishes. I ordered from the menu twice. The Cheeseburger and Waldorf Sandwich were excellent. Fresh and very tasty. Compared to other European 5-star Hotels the prices were reasonable but for Berlin standards a bit high. One of the most not hospitable things to do is demanding a servicecharge for roomservice orders. Placing an order through roomservice generates extra revenue for the hotel and therefore the servicecharge feels almost like a penalty for deciding to stay in your room. Unfortunately that's a common thing nowadays. The Waldorf is certainly one of the best hotels in Berlin. Staff is caring and friendly. When you are able to deliver the high level of service that I experienced just after a worldshocking event next door you deserve nothing else than credit and respect. Even though when that is what most people expect. Collapse

Almost flawless We have spent a weekend during the Berlinale at the Waldorf Astoria - and enjoyed it a lot Situated next to the Gedächtnis Kirche in the old western Centre is a good starting point for anything in berlin Welcome in front of the hotel friendly quick and efficient, doormen at its best Checkin very efficient. No upgrade ( diamond tier HH ) was explained ( fully booked due to Berlinale) but high floor and good view was promised - and kept escort to elevator and/or room was offered ( but not needed) Room - very nice , spacious , good view . King Bed good , linen a bit worn out ( already ?) , view on zoo palace ( red carpet), Tiergarten (Zoo) and Station. I like the optics. The inroom entertainment was a bit complex ( and prone to overheating) Bathroom and amenities 5 star standard. Enough space everywhere. Shoe polishing service Gym fine but on the smaller end. Breakfast very good standard, with mostly attent staff. Overall the staff is friendly and efficient, without being too devote. I like that. Checkout quick and efficient , so the baggage storage etc I liked it - and being there frequently - it made my berlin short list Collapse

After a flight from the US which was impossible to get any sleep, I checked into the Waldorf Astoria Berlin. I had a very important meeting that day. The overnight flight made me lose 7 hours of rest and dropped me in Berlin at 7:15am. I got my bags and arrived at the hotel at 8:15am. My meetings was at 1:00pm. The service was outstanding. The doorman was very helpful and went out of his way to make sure I had what I needed. The front desk was attentive to my needs. They gave me a room right then and there. And the room was perfect. Immaculate to be precise. The view was gorgeous. I took a nap and was ready for my meeting. Afterward, I did my work at the desk looking out over the beautiful Berlin skyline. One cannot describe all the fantastic aspects of my stay. Just that the Waldorf Astoria Berlin exceeded my needs and provided a perfect landing place after a rough flight. This hotel is luxurious, with great service and great location. I look forward to my next stay there. Collapse

We stayed a weekend in a suite in the 10th floor. Great! The breakfast was one of my best experiences ever with a combination of excellent service, amazingly rich buffet with all sorts of delicacies and all special wishes were fulfilled! My special thanks! Waldorf Astoria and especially the suite (I guess it was called "junior suite") was worth choosing. See you soon in Berlin! Collapse
In my opinion the weakest (top) deluxe hotel in Berlin

Of course, Berlin is a highly competitive market for the hospitality industry, especially in the luxury segment. There might be no other European capital with such a range of deluxe hotels to go along with such a low rate level. Having a look at the top segment you will find Hotel de Rome (Rocco Forte), The Regent, Adlon (Kempinski), Ritz-Carlton, probably Grand Hyatt, maybe still Schlosshotel im Grunewald (former Ritz Carlton, former Regent) and – according to their own statement – Waldorf Astoria since 2013. To make a long story short: In my opinion there is a gap compared to the other top deluxe hotels in Berlin. The facilities are fine and reflect in total upscaled hospitality (although the lobby has no atmosphere), the service side remains Hilton . They try but they cannot reach a level one is used to in the top deluxe segment (and that’s a big difference compared to Ritz-Carlton: you never get the feeling, staying at Marriott – both brands are totally separated in the guest’s feeling and of course they have the history and a big RC hotel portfolio what means they know how to manage top deluxe hotels). In the detail: I stayed twice at Waldorf Astoria, for one night each (October 6 and November 9, 2016), rate was 180 and 195 Euro/night for a standard room, breakfast included. My experience: - Doormen: first stay welcome at the door, prompt luggage transfer, friendly; second stay talking to each other and although they did notice my arrival no help with the luggage or welcome. - Reception: staff seemed a bit inexperienced, couldn’t handle complains (e.g. why there is no free wlan; according to the missing doorman service or relating to the form at check in with lots of terms and regulations and an agreement for all the advertising stuff if one does’t mark a small box on the form after reading all that); even the second stay I had to fill out a form again although they knew my address from the first stay. - Both stays no guidance to the room not even explaining how to use the bit complicated elevators. - Second stay: I got a room for disabled guests. I called reception for a room change as I am a very tall person and furniture was optimized for wheelchair user. I had to explain twice why I don’t accept that room. I felt like a supplicatory that I just wanted a room where I could feel comfortable and so I finally got another room (no. 803). - Turn down: first stay turn down service was done, second stay there was no turn down service. As I requested turn down by phone staff asked again: “There was no turn down?” – “No, that’s why I am calling” – “What shall we do?”… - no apologize and you always have to explain yourself why you request a service. - Departure: the doorman really got one of the oldest and dirtiest taxi cabs of Berlin at my second departure. So I did call for a new Mercedes by myself at the taxi call center – which arrived two minutes later. You have the free choice in Berlin which taxi you would like to use and you can order any available car with no extra charge – the employees of Waldorf Astoria simple don’t care about these details and they have no feeling what guests booking a top deluxe hotel expect, that’s the problem in my opinion: they live mediocrity as Hilton is mediocrity. Last not least: breakfast was very good. Service, quality and choice was really above the line. Collapse
