The Waldorf Astoria is a really nice hotel for the more refined clientele. Good facilities, attentive staff and in a luxury setting. May be a bit more formal than some might like, but it is not required. A bit of a hike by foot to get to center of the tourist areas, but it is located in a very nice part of the city. The restaurant is very nice with really good food. The service is a bit slow and I think planned as such, but we were getting frustrated. The food quality made the wait less important. Collapse

This was our 3rd visit to the Waldorf in Amsterdam. We have been going each April. We spent 6 fantastic nights. The Waldorf is so beautiful. From the moment you walk in you are greeted with super friendly service and the smell of the Cire Trudon candles. This year we again selected a room overlooking the gardens. Unfortunately they were fixing the grounds so we could not enjoy the flowers that were present last year. The rooms are large--with huge well appointed luxurious bathrooms. The beds are so comfortable. As a Hilton Diamond Member we also enjoyed a daily fruit bowl. They also had special chocolate treats over the Easter Holiday. The 3 restaurants are fabulous. We loved the breakfast buffet each morning. We also has Easter Lunch in Goldfinch which was delicious. The concierge services are also very very helpful and made our stay even more special. Overall, we just love this hotel and we will be back next April. Collapse

After three nights in another hotel in Amsterdam (see my review of the Conservatorium near my daughter's home) we did a side trip to Salzburg over Easter and booked into the Waldorf upon our return-where we had stayed a couple years ago. Back then I gave it glorious marks and wasn't disappointed this time. The doormen are perched at the entry and by the time you're on the first step you are greeted by no less then two uniformed gentlemen who epitomize classic european training. The reception area is a very comfortable as you were directed to a seated office and while our room wasn't ready at first they offered us tea in their formal tea room. However, they quickly upgraded us into a small suite that was part of the Mayor of Amsterdam's home. The designer and architect assembled, I believe, six canal fronted historical homes and combined them into a fashionable luxury hotel. Large bedroom with expansive bathroom. We were treated every day to small gifts and flowers which again represented the best of european service. I could go on and on but let me say that I've stayed in many hotel thoughout the world and I would put the Waldorf at the top of the list. Also, add a Michelin star-in house- restaurant to the mix. Not inexpensive but felt that we received above commensurate service. Collapse

Seriously, from the moment that you walk into this place you are suddenly reminded about what genuine hospitality should be like. You notice teamwork and a real sense of pride and belonging from every member of staff, where you really feel welcome. The opulence of the golden age of Amsterdam has been tastefully brought back to life in this wonderful recreated property, but with a lightness and colour, that immerses every visitor with its luxurious splendour. It's clear that someone has thought about wishing to appeal to every single sense that we have, whether it's the music in the hallways, the freshly tended flowers or scented candles that make the place so inviting that you will want to rush back to this addictive refugium far away from the bustling city outside. The location of the hotel is great being close to everything that is worth visiting in Amsterdam, but what you will need to think whether you will want a canal facing room, or garden facing. The room furniture and fittings have been so well chosen and so tastefully combined that you feel a cosseted sense of homeliness, as well as a decent nespresso machine if you need to do a bit of work or want to enjoy some refined privacy. Don't make the mistake to miss the breakfast as it would be a sacriledge to forego the famous Waldorf eggs Benedict, or any other fresh dish cooked for you... if you are staying a few days, they will even go to the trouble of shopping for anything that you think might be missing from their offering. I have no end of accolades and superlatives that I could use in order to describe this hotel and it's super staff other than to say that it is an example to what an incredible and unforgettable hotel experience should be like. Like any luxury hotel it is not cheap, but if you are looking for the best place you will find it here. Collapse

This hotel experience was totally out of this world. The Location is perfect. Right on the canals and close to everything yet still quiet and refined. Everything about the service and quality of this place breathes subtle class. I felt like royalty staying here but in the most amazingly gentle way. All staff were extremely friendly and couldn't be happier to converse and assist. The lovely and door man chatted about his twins with us. The manager on check-in gave us a tour on the history of the building and shared exquisite room scents then asked us which one we wanted to be sprayed in our lobby area each day. Breakfast was complete silver service and stunning!! The hotel itself is the perfect combination of historic and beautifully renovated with all of the modern luxuries of a world class establishment. Our room had a beautiful view of the garden and was exceptionally quiet and the pool and spa area absolutely private and lovely also. I have to mention the lovely maid service with a blush as I had soaking a dress from our 1 year old daughter which they washed and pressed and then a few days later left us a beautiful note with gift of a children's book and puzzle for her saying " we would love to wash your daughters clothes free of charge" so amazingly generous and not necessary but thank you so much. The bar was extremely cool my only suggestion would be that the wallet of cocktails was awkward and hard to read in the dark mood lit room but still a fun idea. I absolutely loved my experience at this hotel and will endeavour to return soon. Collapse
