You can do much better than Waldorf/Hilton. Very poor value for money. Poor service.

Brasserie. Average food. No better than Cafe service. Staff training an issue. The wrong type. They don't have a clue why you pay these prices. Better hotels understand genuine hospitality and kind consideration. Not sycophancy, just respect. Room nice. But not £800/night nice. You can do just as well paying £300 a night elsewhere. Hotel very quiet. Unsurprising. Lounge and Spa both deserted throughout our stay, so no atmosphere. Main problem was booking and dealing with the problems afterwards. I booked on Expedia. They refunded without telling me. I discovered this the day before the trip. I scrambled around at the last minute and booked directly with the Hotel but could not obtain the lower "Advance Purchase" price as it was now too late. I asked Expedia to refund the difference in price. They have failed to deal with this. The Waldorf contacted them. They told the Waldorf that they denied my transaction as they thought it might be fraudulent. Why then did my Bank clear the payment into their account? Hmm. So why not contact me to discuss? They told the Hotel that they had tried to contact me via my mobile and email. Nothing on my phone log. Nothing in my spam folder. Hmm. OK so I won't use Expedia again. They generally don't seem to offer genuine discounts anyway. So the Hotel could quite easily refund me the difference as I tried to book in advance and they bear part of the responsibility for a dysfunctional relationship with Expedia. No skin off their nose. And not my fault. So refund the difference as a matter of kind consideration. They got a lot of money out of me and I should not be left with a sour taste as a result. Right? Wrong. "Unfortunately we will not refund your credit card." That's it. Hmm. We care about service and about you... but not that much. My response to them... 'Unfortunately we will not refund your credit card" Really? Really? I booked at the advance purchase rate and it would be an inexpensive gesture on Waldorf's part to honour my intention. A refund should have been offered rather than me actually having to suggest it. Your "regret" for my situation would appear to be rather superficial. It is rather mean, and considering that your rooms are very overpriced for the level of service offered, also rather greedy. Service at both Amsterdam and Edinburgh in the absence of genuine hospitality and kind consideration is merely obsequious. My experience in Edinburgh was similar. I read that while this a problem shared by many of your hotels, that Amsterdam was better. This is evidently incorrect. There are issues of recruitment, training and policy that the Waldorf and Hilton need to address. Please do not insult me with any further contact. Instead, keep my money and accept my judgement. I pay a large amount of money and in exchange I get a sour taste in return. And so my money will not bring you satisfaction, only guilt. Your rather mean spirited reaction justifies my judgement. I shall change my Trip Advisor review but it will not be for the better. Unlike the Waldorf I believe in service, fairness, decency, honour and value for money. These my friend are more than words and you may not claim them if your actions do not bear them out. Warm regards to Christina and two of your breakfast staff. Cheers Collapse

The lobby area is very elegant and the check in desk is so relax and stylish!.Even I didnt have the creditcard, they will help you in other way. Perfect!!! Thank you for the young gentleman at the FO.! It was a warm day and you got ice cold lime water and clean wet towel during the check in. Waldorf is located in the city center so you reach really everywhere within walking distance. The room was a good size, the bed comfortable and clean, small desk area, tea and coffee facilities with beautiful elegant porcelain wares (I really love it !!!), the wifi which was free worked very well. The bathroom was tasteful, separate tub and shower cubicle, plenty of soft clean towels and branded soap gels. All major television channels which was an unexpected bonus. The décor in the bedroom was light and elegant. Breakfast was served on the ground floor with serene garden view, connecting to the door to swimming pool and retreat area, and it was excellent, great choice of cooked items, and so profesional staffs inc. Hannah who was so friendly and helpful and really nice to my son. She even got big big hugs from my son! And the friendly male staff, I got light highfever and he came right away with box of tissue !! They are all excellent, efficient yet friendly and happy to help. A good signs in a hotel ! Lots of breads, pastries , fruits, cold cuts and cheeses. Everything you could want to give you a good start to the day. Highly recommended. We want to come back soon . Comex Collapse

The service here is so good, the staff remembers everything and anticipated our needs before we knew we could have them. We were here for a conference with UBS so our tab was picked up, but I would say if you can afford it there is no better place to stay in Amsterdam. Collapse

Great concept of putting together different buildings into one nice hotel. Incredible service with nice touches like the scents to be chosen for your turn down service. Beautiful gardens and make sure they show you the safety boxes of the former bank that was in the basement. One small detail is that some rooms are not accesible for people with reduced mobility. We had to go thru stairs after leaving the lift and before reaching the room. As we travelled with my elders, they changed the room on the second day for one with flat Access from the lift. They should mention that while booking. Collapse
