The trip really starts before you even get there. I was emailed a few days in advance by the concierge to see if they could help arrange anything such as transport or anything i would like to do during my stay. I did email to say i will be arriving early and it would be great if they could have a room ready. Arrived 11.30am and was given a room! No standing at a desk and no messing around. Extremely friendly and helpful, the receptionist escorted us to our room and personally showed us around etc. This property is all about the smaller touches, the attention to detail. This was shown throughout our stay. Example of this was that I called down to ask if i can get my room cleaned whilst we go to breakfast, the kind lady mentioned cleaning doesn't start till 9am (it was 6.30am). I was just about to leave my room when she called back to say breakfast doesn't start till 7am but she will have someone send up some tea and coffee whilst we wait. That was not her job but she went out of her way which is what you will find throughout your stay. The room was amazing as well as the bathroom, both bath and shower had fantastic pressure! Everything is spotless, modern, and well presented. Everyone is polite and takes the time to acknowledge you and your day. If you call down for anything you will wait no longer than one ring. Basically this is where you want to stay if you want to relax and just enjoy the finer things. The only negatives i have for this exquisite property is that the in-room dining is very pricey (chips 14 euros) as well as breakfast being £37 euros pp per day. I booked via Fine Hotels & Resorts (Amex plat) and that gave me early check in, late check out, breakfast for 2 people and room upgrade, 85 euros property credit as well as there price being slightly cheaper than the hotel itself. I cannot recommend this hotel enough. The staff make this hotel everything. Highly recommended! Collapse

If you want to feel like a celebrity stay here. The staff is one of the most attentive, and warm group of any hotel I have ever stayed. We visited for a week and it was amazing. Every time we came back to the hotel we were greeted with so much warmth and with big smiles. Everyone went out of their way to help us and make us feel special. I can't say enough about how nice the staff was. Collapse

The Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam is a boutique style hotel located in the center of the city. Most things are walkable from here. It is located on a quiet canal street. Rooms are very nice, the public areas are nice, and the service is attentive in all aspects. The restaurant is two star Michelin for dinner. The breakfasts are credible, but not the most sumptuous buffet in Amsterdam, and they are somewhat costly. Collapse
Very good... but wanted perfect for the price.

(nb. This review relates to our stay at the end of September 2015, but only posted in Dec 2016.) To celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary, my wife and I decided to push the boat out and book a top end hotel for a long weekend in Amsterdam. Overall we were very happy with the experience. The hotel is very well situated on one of the most attractive canals in the city. As you'd expect the decor was very plush and elegant, and the staff were very helpful and friendly.....wishing us a happy anniversary etc. A cake was left for us in our room and we were given a card at dinner on the previous evening. The concierge was very helpful. In discussion about our itinerary we mentioned plans to visit the Ann Frank house. He was able to arrange queue busting VIP tickets that probably saved us at least 30 minutes queuing time. Our room was at the back of the hotel, was comfortably furnished, and overlooked a pleasant garden. The gym was very well equipped. I consider some aspects of the hotel as being a bit unnecessary..... we didn't really need a choice of room fragrance, nor a pillow menu with a choice of 10 pillow types. I suppose this was part of what was felt to justify the cost of the room. Was it worth the extra money compared to less expensive hotels? If everything had been perfect then it might have, just. However some aspects of the service remained lacking. Being created out of at least two canal side houses, the main entrance was up some steep steps. We arrived with heavy luggage but had to haul the cases up the steps ourselves as the doormen weren't to be seen when we arrived. Over the few days we were there we noticed there were either three or four at once, or none. We had afternoon tea in the lounge on one day, and asked for some biscuits with our tea. We were told they would arrive with the tea, but when it eventually arrived we had to ask again for the biscuits. At the price of the hotel I wouldn't expect this. A complimentary ironing service was listed in the service directory, but after we'd used it we were initially given a bill for 88Euros. When we highlighted this the charge was immediately rescinded without question (other than 'where does it say complimentary') but another example of a service that wasn't quite joined up. An anniversary meal in the Goldfinch restaurant suffered from slow service and we had to ask for wine to be topped up. At the beginning of the meal we were asked if we wanted a glass of champagne to celebrate anniversary . This sounded gratis but actually was charged for. Not a major gripe, but another reason why I can only rate this hotel with 4 out of 5 for what was otherwise an excellent stay Collapse
