This will be my second year staying at the renaissance and I couldn't be happier. The rooms are clean and quiet the front desk staff is friendly and professional. But I want to take the time to mention the manager ZSofia, the bartender mae and barback taylor. These three employees went above and beyond to make my stay memorable. Friendly, courteous professional and top notch Customer service. ( which is rare these days) normally I like to explore the neighborhood for bars or restaurants. Because of these three there was no need. I recommend the renaissance just for that. Collapse

We spent 4 nights here with our two teens and had a very enjoyable time. We don’t mind walking so we found this to be a convenient, central location close to many attractions like Horton Plaza, Gaslight District, the Harbor, Ralph’s grocery store and Little Italy. The city is clean and safe. I even took advantage of the nail salon, Bella Paris Nails, just two blocks away. The hotel reception area was under renovation but that did not effect our stay. Actually, the construction crews were pleasant and tried to be non-disruptive. Pros: Valet staff are extremely respectful and the lobby area is trendy with additional outdoor seating. It was easy to text the valet when we wanted our car. We enjoyed the fruit infused water and and coffee in the lobby. This hotel should win an award for room functionality and if it plans to remodel the rooms soon, don’t take away these features: fantastic window seat for extra lounging, many hooks for hanging towels in bathroom and extra hooks for clothes just outside the bathroom, lots of counter space in bathroom with magnifying mirror and storage shelf under the vanity, plenty plug-in’s for digital devices, nice towels and linens, Keurig, fridge, and good housekeeping services. I also really like the Aveda products they offer. There is a nice roof top bar area as well. Cons: This is the most expensive hotel parking we have experienced. Self parking is not really an easy option. The workout area was fine since we only use the treadmill but a little warm because it was busy. Pool area is very small but we still enjoyed the lounge chairs to soak up some sun. Collapse

Check in - Quick Room - very nice and clean Hotel Location - ok Hotel Appearance - very nice Staff - very nice clean - Yes I arrived to this hotel on Saturday July 1st 2017, I thought it was in the GasLamp district. The location isn't bad but it is a bit of a walk to the GasLamp. Quiet street. I managed to get parking right in front of the hotel. street regulations start at 8am I was able to pay for a 2 hour stay ($2.50) not bad. walk right into the hotel check in - the check in area is not your typical check in area stay alert for that once you get your room key make a left and walk down the hall to the elevator (hallway under construction) room was beautiful - nice décor and clean. the TV was a nice size I love the lounge area by the window omg loved it pool is small but nice the gym area is nice but the whole floor is under construction love the energy and vibe of the hotel wasn't a party hotel it was nice I highly recommend it if you get a nice price on it. the staff was nice the restaurant on the first floor looked nice and there were plenty of people eating there the hotel offers free wifi however I checked my bill today and there was a charge that I need to dispute because I was told by the first desk that the wifi was free overall nice hotel and for the right price I will stay here again Collapse

I just came back from a two-night stay at this hotel for a conference (June 26-28, 2017). As other posters have mentioned the hotel is currently undergoing a construction project that will turn this into the Hotel Republic, an Autograph Collection Hotel. The front desk clerk said that the goal was to be like the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas. PROs: 1) The rooms are quite nice, as you would expect from a Renaissance Hotel. The beds were comfortable and, at least on the 16th floor where I stayed, I heard neither construction nor road noise. Having encountered those strange half walled showers at the Renaissance Hotel in Barcelona, Spain a few years ago, the ones here were not a surprise. Nice quality AVEDA bath products were included. 2) The room also came with a mini-refrigerator which is always appreciated, as was the complimentary bottle of water. 3) Friendly staff members at the hotel bar. 4) Because of the construction, you should be able to get a better deal here than at other hotels in Downtown San Diego. Even though the lobby, pool and bar areas are impacted by the construction, given the beautiful weather in San Diego, who really wants to hang out in a hotel lobby?! If the deal was good enough, you might want to consider a stay. CONs: 1) Location. This would be the reason why I would not return unless work brought me here. This is not in a tourist area of Downtown San Diego. It is a long walk to the Gaslamp District, the Convention Center or the Petco Park baseball stadium. (This would be a good location if you were an attorney because you are close to several courthouses). 2) Overly expensive valet charges Collapse
