I stayed at the W Downtown for many weeks in 2017, as I worked with a client in the Financial District. This hotel is right in front of the One World Trade Center, and is within walking distance to the Fulton Center subway as well as the Rector St, 1 Line. Loved the service levels at this hotel, everyone from the doorman to the receptionists and bartenders knew me by name and always tried to make my stay as comfortable as possible. The rooms were quite large, and I did get upgraded a few times to corner suites facing the WTC Memorial. The hotel does not currently (July 2017) have a restaurant as it is undergoing upgradation, hence there is no Platinum lounge / breakfast buffet. However the last time i visited they did provide gift cards to use at the Starbucks around the corner, which I appreciated! Additionally because this hotel is situated downtown, it does get a bit quiet after 7 pm or so, and there aren't too many restaurant choices. The modern room design is also something that not everyone might like (black carpets, white walls and ceilings) and could possibly be improved with more light in the room. Overall though I would greatly recommend this hotel, and would come back if I needed to work out of NYC going forward. Collapse

This W definitely lives up to the chic vibe that W hotels around the world possess. The staff are helpful and friendly. You enter through sliding glass doors at street level off a non-busy side street (Albany). Bellmen greet you warmly and handle your luggage. An elevator with the always cool W mood music and aroma whisks you up to the 5th-floor lobby and lounge which has a wonderfully inviting patio and bar with views across to the Freedom Tower and the World Trade Center Memorial Park. Make sure you enjoy drinks or just hanging out on the patio - especially after dark. It's a great experience and the view is spectacular. The location is great for Battery Park, Financial District, Statue of Liberty. It is a long ride up to mid-town for theatre or sites there. SoHo is a twenty-minute walk but it is through fun, interesting neighborhoods. The area right around the hotel has plenty of inviting shops, restaurants and coffee hangouts. The now iconic Oculus mall and train station is only a couple of minutes away and absolutely worth visiting. As an SPG liftime Platinum we were upgraded to a corner room which had views on two sides to the Freedom Tower and Financial District. The room had all the hip whistles and bells we love about W hotels - latest tech gadgets, sleek design, floor to ceiling glass. The bed was wonderfully comfortable. The bathroom spacious, well designed with a big shower with excellent water pressure. On the down side, this W does NOT do Platinum upgrades to their suites. They wanted more money for that. Most other W hotels do offer such upgrades -- for example, the W in NYC on Lexington Avenue does it. The manager told me the suite was available but since it's so distinctive they need more money. That's unusual and disappointing. Also, the restaurant is currently being renovated so only some coffee was being served but this should be fixed soon. All in all, this is a solid W hotel with better than average views, helpful staff and I do recommend it for Lower Manhattan though they should reconsider their upgrade policy. Collapse

This hotel faces One World Trade Center. But be aware that you may get stuck like I did facing a run down, abandoned parking lot. When I asked for my room to face the tower, they told me there were no king rooms that faced the tower. Yet, one of my co-workers had a room as such. Just be careful. Room 613 faces the parking lot. I have to admit, it was quite, though. Collapse

I stayed at the hotel for one night. The hotel is very close to westside highway and on a quiet downtown street. The main lobby is on the 5th floor where you need to change elevators. I got a good rate of $180 for the night. They upgraded me to a high floor corner room due to my status. The views from this room were unbelievable. I could see a good part of NYC from my windows which went around 2 sides of the room. The room itself was of decent size. I found the bathroom to be tiny. My biggest issue with W hotels is that they are very dark! I know they want to be cool, but I do like to see things in the corridor while walking :)...The service was sterile so cant say much. Overall this hotel did provide a good mix of price & value so I would repeat it. Collapse
