5 1/2 years ago, a guy from Phoenix who I had been speaking to for a few months came to NYC for a birthday party. After hanging out twice, it was clear we had an amazing spark and as a "treat"- I rented a 2 night stay at the W Hotel. Not to be completely cheesy, but we definitely fell for each other in this hotel, and my favorite moment was after a wonderful dinner date and walking around NYC for hours talking, we went back to the room and sat on the bench overlooking the window together and looked out on the city in total silence. 3 months later we were in love and 6 months later we formally got "together" It was a magical moment that I will take with me for the rest of my life. Over the last year, due to distance and life events, we've grown apart and decided to take a break from each other. I was in NYC on business for a few days and wanted to surprise him by recapturing that moment. I reached out to the W Hotel Manager with I was sure was an impossible request- was there anyway to find out the room I had stayed in 5 1/2 years ago? Or if not, if I could describe the room and the angle, could we get a reasonable similarity? The Director of Welcome Office, Mickey Steenberghe, was immediately helpful and was able to find the room number. He helped me book the room 2 weeks in advance and was amazing in communication - offering other treats and events to make the visit more magical. When I checked into the room, I was overcome first with nostalgia, but then with a huge smile as I saw the W Staff had strewn rose petals all about the room, including a large heart on the bed and a trail leading to the bench which now had decorative lights over it. A bottle of chilled champagne and chocolate covered strawberries were on the desk waiting for us. My guy arrived a few hours later- he was extremely touched and we had an amazing time reminiscing and reliving those first beautiful moments where we connected. It's a bit too early to tell, but I think we may decide to give things a second shot when I move back to NYC in a few months. It was truly an amazing magical experience the first time around and Mickey's help to recreate the moment gave us both such a wonderful experience- I can't thank him or the W enough. Definitely my favorite place to stay in NYC! Collapse

Checked in for a wedding...Amazing location. Starwood Gold member...no upgrade, told we were given a prime room...I guess prime means next to elevator, no view. Heard the elevator as well as the people in the next room..loudly! Never offered our choice of wifi or free drink. Went to desk to ask for the free drink coupons and given attitude but we did get one coupon. Usually one per person. Very interesting rooms, great bar overlooking the freedom tower, Need a serious Starwood training session. Collapse

I recently visited this hotel as I wanted a change from the Time Square vibe and I AM SO GLAD I did. My awesome experience started even before I checked into the hotel when I contact Concierge and spoke to Andrew who was able to secure me a reservation at one of the hottest restaurants in NYC (one that was showing complete booked online and when calling over the phone). Upon check-in I was greeted by Candice who helped my wife and I get our stay underway. Candice was EXTREMELY professional, friendly and sweet. While checking us in Candice noticed our room wasn't ready and started to make some calls to speed things along. During this proceed we had some small talk and Candice learned that my wife and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary so she went to the back and got us some passes to use at the bar which we did while we waited for our room. 15 minutes (or less as we were busy drinking) our room was ready which was AMAZING! Due to our original room not being ready Candice appear to have upgraded us to a better room which had amazing views of the Freedom Tower and surrounding area. The room itself was super trendy and had some cool gadgets. The bathroom was also great. Later that night we stopped by Andrew's desk again to thank him for hooking us up with the reservations and shared with him how happy we were with the restaurant and before no time we felt like "old friends". I truly enjoyed my stay and the entire staff did everything they could to make us feel welcomed. Collapse

As a New Yorker, I never imagine that I would stay at hotels in New York City. However, I decided to do something for a change. I chose W New York Downtown because it has a nice view of the One World Tower. We got the room with the amazing view overlooking the New Tower and the New Lower Manhattan. The room was small but from my experience, it was a reasonable size for hotel room in big cities worldwide. The reception and the concierge were very nice and helpful. At the beginning, I decided to spend only one night and at the end we spent four nights because we enjoyed the view so much. How to get there - Take R train and get off at Rector Street Wanna go shopping - Take R train and get off at Cortlandt Street to visit Century 21 (it's faster to walk there than taking the train though) Wanna go sightseeing - Take R train and get off at Whitehall Street to explore South Ferry and take the free shuttle to Staten Island This was my second times that W Hotels tried to rip me off for something that I didn't take. They added something to my bill (folio) and I told them to remove it. They did remove it. I'd have given this hotel five stars if there was no error to my bill. I would recommend this hotel to others. However, watch you bills. Collapse
