The W is a wonderful hotel, standing out like a giant sail against the sea. It is a luxury hotel with a good choice of restaurants. What it isn't is close to any of the main attractions of Barcelona, the other hotels or the conference centres. However if that isn't important then it is a cool place to stay. I had a room on the sixth floor with a great view of the beach and the sea even when lying in bed due to the full length windows. You can even open and close the curtains from the bed as there is a switch close by that operates the curtains. However it isn't perfect and left a small gap. The view in the evening and first thing in the morning was just wonderful and relaxing. The room I stayed in wasn't huge but used mirrors effectively to give the feeling of a larger room. It had a wet room with a choice of two shower heads, a separate toilet (no bidet) and a brightly lit sink in the bedroom. The desk was behind the bed which was a step down from the rest of the room. As you would expect from a Starwood hotel the bed was very comfortable with a soft topper on top of a firm mattresss. The pillows were quite soft but they do offer alternative pillows. There was an ipod docking station with a choice of fittings and this produced a good sound. There was also a range of ingredients for making cocktails. By the full length window there is a room wide chaise long/seating so that you can just sit there and soak up the atmosphere. There is a good level of storage space including a built in set of drawers and plenty of space for shoes. Free wifi is available and this was adequate strength. There was a good number of sockets for charging devices on the desk. Complementary bottles of water are provided every night and these are larger than the usual size left by hotels. The room safe is larger enough to take a laptop and very helpfully has an electric socket in it so that you can charge devices while the safe is locked. There was plenty of towels and Bliss products both by the sink and also in the wet room. The gym is on the floor above reception and has views over the beach and sea. It had plenty of equipment with multilingual operation and a large number of TV channels to watch. There are both machines and weight machines. There is also an exercise room including a heavyweight punch bag. It is open 24x7. Towels and water are available in the gym along with changing rooms. There are three restaurants where you can have breakfast, Salt, Wave and Bravo. I had breakfast in Salt for the first few days as I was on a major conference and this had been reserved for my company. Salt is down by the beach and is a bright and airy restaurant. There was a very good range of food both Spanish and international with lots of fresh fruit, smoothies and hams and cheeses. There was also traditional hot breakfast - scrambled eggs, bacon, etc. I ate in Bravo on my last morning. This is one the floor above reception and is a smaller restaurant with views over a terrace and towards the sea and beach. The selection of food on offer was marginally smaller than Salt - more Spanish and Asian, but still was very good. Wave is on the ground floor and was being used by a bank that was holding a conference but appeared to be airy and bright. The check-in staff were very friendly and helpful and spoke excellent English. There are plenty of taxis available throughout the day and night. Collapse

Booked this hotel for a long weekend away for my birthday, it was expensive but was intended as a treat! The views which is obviously what you are paying for are amazing. Our room looked out over the harbour side and there was some some construction going on so that wasnt so pretty but didnt take away from the views looking out to sea, lovely! The hotel was stunning, the bars, rooms, reception were all immaculate. The hotel staff were all very helpful, polite and friendly. It was a fair walk from the centre of town however we enjoyed the extra walking and exploring and saw places and spent time at the beach which we may not have done if we were staying elsewhere! I have taken one star off as the room we had was so hot, there is air conditioning but it didnt go below 17 degrees which personally I find is too hot for sleeping. I did speak to reception but nothing changed, not sure if this is the standard temperature or it was broken. All in all a great trip! Collapse

I decided that for my milestone 30th birthday which is end of the summer to go away instead of sitting in much dreaded heat of NYC. THANK GOD! This hotel was absolutely incredible and phenomenal. One of the best stays I've had. Although rooms were a bit on the smaller side we did have a high view from the 21st floor overlooking the ocean, boardwalk and the good side of Barcelona. (Vs the pier where all the big ships come in... eek) From the moment we checked in they knew I was there to celebrate my birthday. They literally went so far above and beyond in terms of helping us book our dinners every night... we chose a different Michelin star restaurant every night. The day of my birthday I had cava and dessert sent to my room, sent to the beach, birthday cards all from the hotel. Highly recommend spending at least a night here. The rooftop bar is just for show, nothing special but I would definitely check it out to at least say you've been. Food in the hotel in incredible. If you eat breakfast there. Go to the restaurant/bar next to the lobby and order off their "secret" menu. They have all different kinds of omelettes as well as raid the breakfast buffet. I loved the fact they had various juices to choose from and they were bottled! Collapse
