Just returned from a week in the Vulcano. Refurbishment of hotel was supposed to have been completed but work is still in progress until June. Around the pool you could hear jack hammers and drills being used on the roof throughout the day. Work was also going on in the Best Tenerife hotel next door, under our balcony was like a building site. Loungers around pool were uncomfortable as there were no mattresses ( same as sister hotel Arona Gran -which had mattresses). First time I have been charged for a fridge in the room in a 4 star hotel, which I need to store insulin. The pluses are , our standard room 679 was superb, better than many with a pool view where people were charged extra. Location of hotel was superb ,staff excellent . Food was acceptable, but veg could have been fresher and warmer, and fresh fruit riper Collapse

Regular visitors and one of the main reasons was the terrific food - not so now - the dining room is too bright, too noisy with very limited space between tables and around the food stations leading to a chaotic cafeteria dining experience. The quality and variety of the food is nowhere near previous standards and definitely not a relaxed dining experience so much so that we ate out twice during the week something we have never done before. We used to enjoy a drink in the bar before dinner during happy hour but as this has been stopped the bar was dead between 6 and 7 pm with no atmosphere. New rooms great and spotlessly clean and taxi transfer organised as part of booking direct with hotel worked very well. If we return it will be on bed and breakfast basis as dinner and the dining room became a very unpleasant experience. Collapse

My partner and I have just returned from a weeks break in the newly refurbished vulcano & up hotel from 6th March to 13th March. We love the new look vulcano, From the minute we arrived at the door we were met by a member of staff who took our luggage and brought us to reception to check in and while checking in offered us a very welcome glass of bubbly, check in was very fast and efficient with a very friendly and smiling gentleman. Our room was very comfortable, plenty of storage space and a large screen TV with plenty of English channels. The Room was cleaned to a very high standard daily and towels replaced as required, the lady who cleaned the room was very friendly and pleasant. The breakfast was fantastic everything you can think of was available from full English to all types of fruit, breads, yogurts, cereals, the waiters bring coffee or tea to your table as required and the freshly squeezed orange juice is a great perk in the mornings. The evening dinner is so varied that even the fussiest person will find something to suit them. Some of the nights are themed nights such as Canarian night or Spanish night. We never had a problem getting a table at any time even when the restaurant was very busy. The bar and entertainment areas have been refurnished and look great with plenty of seating and very good bar service with great entertainment every night. The pool area is so relaxing and peaceful that we found it hard to leave it in the evenings. Last but not least all the staff that we met during our stay were very friendly and happy to help in any way, this is what makes this hotel special and every member of the staff are a credit to themselves and the hotel. We would highly recommend the volcano for a relaxing holiday. Collapse

Very good location. Refurbished room. Clean and comfortable. Refurbishment still going on but we were on the 5th floor away from the work so only heard the noise slightly. Reception staff always friendly and helpful as were the bar staff. Entertainment very good especially Jeff Clayton. Pool area clean and comfortable. One pool heated. Only negative is the dining room. Extremely busy and noisy. Struggled to get a table sometimes. You could hardly put your knife and fork down when the plate was whipped away. One morning went for toast. Came back and the table was cleared and reset!! Breakfast was very good. Lovely porridge. Dinner not so good. Struggled some nights to find something suitable to eat. Nearly every night stewed bananas. Pears or plums or apples would have been good for a change. The dining experience is the one thing that would make me think twice about going back which is a shame. After a very good flight with Jet2 with special assistance for my disabled wife we arrived at the hotel only to be shown to a room which was a route march from the lift with no walk_in shower and continual bang bang bang from the builders. We were told that the hotel was full but there would be a room near the lift tomorrow. After moving all our things , my wife simply opened her bedside drawer and the whole unit, which hadn't been secured to the wall, fell forward. The heavy plate glass top of the drawer slid off onto her arm which became severely bruised and badly swollen. The management called the doctor who determined that there was nothing broken. When my wife in her distress asked what they were going to do about it one of the receptionist said "We did pay for the doctor". In fairness when the management heard what had happened, they tried to make up for it with lots of little extras. The hotel and staff was almost perfect. Little things like the rows of tables in the dining room being too close together, the noise of the chairs scraping on the floor and searching for an empty table, became unimportant because the choice and standard of the food was excellent. We would certainly return to the Spring Volcano again as I'm sure that next time they would check that everything was securely fixed.
