Algarve´s best kept secret,Vila Monte - Farm House is located in the rural Algarve, ten minutes away from the beach and 35km from Spain. Surrounded by lush gardens, Vila Monte offers an exotic atmosphere inspired in the memories left centuries ago by the moors in the Algarve.
The rooms and suites are located in villas with different atmospheres. The charm of the Andalusian orange grove that protects the suites of the Orangerie, the peace of the Riad and its inner courtyard, the privacy of Villa Indigo, the exotic Kasbah wing. Experiencing Vila Monte is living the outdoors under the century old trees or on a terrace overlooking the sea.
Vila Monte’s restaurant, Orangerie, offers a cuisine based on Algarvian products, from honey produced on the Monchique hills to the fish brought from the market of Olha~o. We also use ingredients organically grown on the estate, namely citrus fruits, figs, almonds and fresh herbs.
Hidden in the Vila Monte garden, the Kasbah Spa invites guests to a pampering experience in an atmosphere of floral scents, exotic massages and relaxing treatments for mind and body. The spa offers a true cocoon for the senses, with several massage rooms, an arab bath and a hamman. The luring fragrance of mint tea will be a permanent companion in this haven of peace and tranquillity.

A great "get away from it all" destination in the Eastern Algarve where you can do as little or as much as you like. We chose to do little other than sleep, read and eat. The hotel comprises a number of separate buildings rather than one large block set in wonderfully tended grounds which is a haven for wild life. What you see on the hotel's website is actually what you get. It definitely is not a "standard designed, could be anywhere in the world" entity. Don't be put off by concrete based beds... the matresses are comfy in the extreme. There are plenty of power points. Shutters rather than blinds ensure darkness for sleeping even at midday. Subtle lighting around the pathways at night is compensated for by torches in rooms to light the way between rooms and the restaurant. We did take a couple of independent trips to the nearby towns of Tavira and Olhao which the hotel facilitated... we did not hire a car. We also joined an organised visit with the hotel's head chef to Olhao market. This was a great opportunity to pick up cooking tips and learn about produce not usually available at home. Clearly food is very much down to personal taste (sorry about the pun and for stating the obvious!) but it is excellent. Breakfast is a sumptuous help yourself affair with eggs as poached or omlettes available to order. Great range of breads and juices and smoothies. Dinner was good. I would say simple but this seems unfair... we had a range of wonderful concoctions subtley flavoured with home-grown herbs. That said, the home made pizzas cooked in a wood oven were spectacular. The staff are extremely helpful yet unobtrusive. Nothing appears to be too much trouble for them and the range of languages spoken by key front of house staff was impressive to say the least. Overall a great week and given the standard of accommodation and victuals provided, very good value for money. Our private car transport between Faro airport and Vila Monte was 42 Euros and taxi fares to Olhao 30 Euros round trip and Tavira 48 Euros. We paid 25 Euros each for a 4 hour boat trip from Olhao around the Islands - the Ria Formosa. Collapse

We stayed for one night in early November, for our anniversary. On a cold but sunny day from the minute we pulled up in the car, we loved the place. A friendly welcome outside the front door, a warm and genuine introduction to the hotel, for the whole stay we felt the reception staff were genuinely passionate about the place. Loved the open fireplace in the contemporary open plan reception area, with a gin bar! We had a Junior Suite and loved it. Its very simple and not I suppose 5 star luxury but its classy and chic in a comfortable way. Sadly we couldn't enjoy the outdoor terrace but it would be fab in warmer months. We had an afternoon snack and dinner in the A Terra restaurant, and had a great meal both times. The only minus during the evening was the staff in the restaurant were not customer focussed enough, especially considering the standards elsewhere. Even with a half empty restaurant, two of them were far too busy chatting to each other for half of the evening, to notice our attempts for about 15 mins from a table directly in front of them, to get further drinks, and then later the bill. We actually live on the Eastern Algarve and go to the sister restaurant at Praia Verde quite regularly, and the staff there are streets ahead in terms of customer service. Breakfast was excellent quality and situated in a different restaurant. Sadly we couldnt stay to enjoy the full day, but we will definitely be back, its a beautiful setting with a relaxed atmosphere.... we would love to do the Chefs Table next to their vegetable garden one evening, or the outdoor cinema, or the bike rides in the summer....... I wish I could give this hotel 5 stars, it really is a beautiful place. The reception area with it's open wood fire is lovely and welcoming, the grounds are very well maintained, spacious and provide a fabulous backdrop to the hotel. The rooms are stylish, clean, and the beds are amazingly comfortable with beautiful linen. The adults only pool is great, heated during the winter months which is unusual for an outdoor pool in Spain. Set amongst the trees and flowers of the hotel grounds it's a very relaxing and private place to swim. Breakfast was very good, lovely setting and a good selection of hot and cold food. There are a few things that stop me from giving this hotel 5 stars, some are purely personal preference and others may not see them as issues. Firstly the service, it's very good, attentive and friendly, however I found it a bit too full on, I felt every time I walked into reception I would be pounced on to comment on my day etc etc, I prefer to be a bit more anonymous. The restaurant is like the rest of the hotel, very stylish and comfortable, but for the price I think the food could be better, it was a bit up and down. We had a delicious sea bream cooked in the wood fired oven, however the vegetables were very under cooked. The previous night we had cod, that time the vegetables were cooked to perfection. I would eat there again, but be mindful of how much it was costing me and perhaps share dishes as they are large portions, Our superior suite was gorgeous, however I thought the bathroom let it down, there is no bath only a shower and it's rather small for 'suite' standard. Again it wouldn't stop me from staying there again, but a bath would make it perfect. The shower, I will add, was great - proper rain shower with lots of pressure and hot water. Overall the ambience of this place is tranquil, with thoughtful touches throughout, I would recommend this hotel and I'm sure I'll visit again. Collapse

Refurbished 6 months ago so nice and clean and everything works. Staff in reception dining and excursions are all really nice and helpful, nothing is too much bother for them. Evening dining was great on the a la cartel menu but only 2 choices for each course on the table d`hote which was disappointing. Breakfast was good for fruits and pastries but the cooked bacon, eggs etc were terrible. Not even warm and they looked like they had been sitting there for ages. The excursions were good and the free bikes were fun, although no good for serious cycling. If you like hillwalking there are lots of nice trails in the hills behind the hotel. Swimming pool was too cold for us in November, about 10 degrees water temperature. Collapse

Hotel is situated about half an hour ride fron Faro airport. Reception of the hotel is modern chic design. Small bar next to the reception and small shop sellin local products. In off season late evening movies are shown in this area. Check in was smooth, bags taken to the room while we were informed about the hotel facilities. We stayed in superior room which was clean, of decent size and well equipped. AC in our room was leaking and there was noise of water pumping/flushing, which in the middle of the night was quite frustrating. A Terra on site restaurant is quite comfy and laidback sort of place. We had 3 meals in there. Food is nice but menu is a bit limited. Above average sized portions. Thin crust pizza is huge but not crisp as one would expect. Good local wine available, beer prices comparable to central london. One big negative was excessive use of olive oil in almost everything. However apple and rosemary dessert was a stand out dish and is a must try. Hotel has 2 pools and adult pool is heated. Though at 23 degress it was still quite cold. Tennis court is available as well. Water with citrus fruits and glassesis kept near pools, which is a nice touch. Hotel grounds are quite nice and relaxing with rosemary growing wildly. Small gym is situated close to breakfast restaurant. Lot of options provided at breakfast time. However all hot breakfast items were cold everyday. My suggestion during off peak season would be to cook them at order, however cold breakfast options were nice. Sparkling wine is also served during breakfast. We ordered freshly cooked eggs on our last 2 days. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Other cons apart from pricy and limited menu of A Terra is that coffe provided in the room is charged. I use nespresso at home and buy pods for 28-30 pence but hotel charges almost 6 times for making an espresso in your room which in is a shame. Taxi booked by hotel is not good enough and for short trips he charges a lot. We used uber and paid half while returning on 2 different occasions. Overall nice property to relax. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Collapse
