Algarve´s best kept secret,Vila Monte - Farm House is located in the rural Algarve, ten minutes away from the beach and 35km from Spain. Surrounded by lush gardens, Vila Monte offers an exotic atmosphere inspired in the memories left centuries ago by the moors in the Algarve.
The rooms and suites are located in villas with different atmospheres. The charm of the Andalusian orange grove that protects the suites of the Orangerie, the peace of the Riad and its inner courtyard, the privacy of Villa Indigo, the exotic Kasbah wing. Experiencing Vila Monte is living the outdoors under the century old trees or on a terrace overlooking the sea.
Vila Monte’s restaurant, Orangerie, offers a cuisine based on Algarvian products, from honey produced on the Monchique hills to the fish brought from the market of Olha~o. We also use ingredients organically grown on the estate, namely citrus fruits, figs, almonds and fresh herbs.
Hidden in the Vila Monte garden, the Kasbah Spa invites guests to a pampering experience in an atmosphere of floral scents, exotic massages and relaxing treatments for mind and body. The spa offers a true cocoon for the senses, with several massage rooms, an arab bath and a hamman. The luring fragrance of mint tea will be a permanent companion in this haven of peace and tranquillity.

Stayed at this lovely small hotel for a week of relaxation in Portugal. The hotel was as described, small and intimate with lovely manicured gardens, two swimming pools, indoor gym and even a outdoor cinema. From the moment we arrived the staff were extremely friendly and were willing to help whatever was requested from them. Although we did not stay in a mini suite our room was excellent, I would suggest larger than the mini suites but it did not have a sitting area, that was more than compensated for as a result of it being detached and having two large balconies which meant we had the sun from sunrise to sunset. We had dinner at the hotel on a couple of nights, again excellent although quite expensive, likewise the drinks. Having stated that fact we also ate out at some of the local eateries and found these to be almost the same price as the hotel with the quality of the food having no comparison to the hotels. At the end of the day you get what you pay for. Noted on one review that a person had made a comment that the breakfasts were repetitive!! Well four different juices to choose from, different serials, fruit, yogurts, home made bread and cakes, cheeses, bacon, scrambled, fried and omelette eggs, sausage, mushrooms, tomatoes etc etc... sorry i don't class that as repetitive, almost forgot Champagne or sparkling wine also.. Would definitely recommend this hotel but would also suggest that a car is advisable due to its location in the countryside. Collapse

We loved Vila Monte Farmhouse, it is such a calm, beautiful and relaxing place. We stayed in Junior Suite which had gorgeous decor, beautifully white and a huge, comfy bed. The aircon, Wifi and TV worked great in the rooms. We loved sitting on our balcony in the evening and watching the sunset. The food was great, enough choice for us, and we always enjoyed our meals, the best thing was the wine, we had a bottle between us each night. If you don't like it, you can try another bottle! MUST - yoga in the gardens on Sunday morning, so relaxing! Tips - there are other menus available in the day, you can get a different menu from the bar with sandwiches/burgers etc, rather than 'a la carte' style dining in the main restaurant and under the veranda. We really liked the outdoor cinema, although we only went once. If you are going for total relaxation then this is for you, it's so quiet and everyone leaves you to it, which I love. One little thing - bugs! Flies, wasps etc, they were super annoying, but nothing the hotel can control i'm afraid! We would definitely return! Collapse

over the last 4 weeks we have stayed in 4 hotels on the Algarve and this was one of the best. The rooms and their setting were superb and the gardens were fabulous. Service and dining were good and the staff were helpful and charming.

We were looking for somewhere warm and quiet for a week's break and Vila Monte came up trumps. It's no more than 30 minutes from Faro airport and is in a secluded backwater but close enough to a couple of local towns (we liked Tavira very much) if you have the inclination to leave the hotel. Accommodation was superb (room 11) and everything about the experience - staff, food, grounds was delightful. We very much hope to return in the future. One thing to avoid unless the sea is particularly calm is the dolphin spotting. My wife described it as two and a half hours on a fairground ride with buckets of salt water being thrown at you - it was not very pleasurable, and no, we didn't see any dolphins! Collapse

I travelled here on my own needing a break and couldn't have asked for a more perfect place to stay: in spite of a flight delay, the hotel were so accommodating at putting back the taxi I had organised through them (you pay the taxi direct). The hotel is beautifully designed and felt really peaceful. The lobby was just gorgeous and great to chill one evening with a glass of wine and a fire going. The attention to decor detail is everywhere and yet it doesn't feel forced, just very relaxed and cool. My room was gorgeous and there's little touches like a beach bag/basket, hat etc. The gardens and the surrounding scenery are lovely and obviously cared for. Having 2 pools is a good idea except: the adult pool is in amongst trees and when I was there didn't get much sun, and the water in both is very very cold. The food was really great: I stayed three nights and ate in the restaurant every night...really fresh and full of flavour with lovely wines. Breakfast too was great with lovely views out across the local countryside. Get there early though if you want to sit outside! The staff were really attentive without being obtrusive. If I had stayed longer I would have hired a car and explored local towns / villages for dinner options eventually as the menu didn't change. There's a great gym, the cinema is a nice touch and the beach trip is worth doing - you're looked after and it feels remote / peaceful....the tide was coming right in towards the end of the day so maybe check with staff as I had a small worry about getting stranded!! The staff were brilliant throughout : really responsive on email beforehand answering my questions and sorting out cabs for me, and great when I was there, quickly recognising my drink of choice and letting me use the facilities until my flight in the evening. Only two quibbles: you get a bottle of water in your room on arrival but then have to pay if you want more, and the sandwich I bought from the lobby deli was a little stale...I'd sussed out what was on offer the night before and not sure if my sandwich was made fresh the morning if my trip. Other than those little things, I loved staying here and will be back for a longer stay. Collapse
