had a great break, very lucky with the weather considering still early in the season. position of the hotel was excellent for getting around, close to beach & marina. we had a hire car so bought a map & went off exploring quite a few local towns, the old part of Faro, Tavira, Silves & the lighthouse @ Cape St Vincent are all worth a visit, especially if you want some great pics to remind you of your trip. Lots of bars & restaurants to choose from in the marina @ varying costs, something for everyone. Collapse

This review contains urgent holiday information and so please read the whole piece. The hotel is almost on the beach, quite nice, staff very friendly and helpful, facilities good and worthy of 4 stars. The hotel is large and so breakfast is a bit of a 'free for all' buffet and if a lot of people are staying they will struggle to replenish food. The food quality and variety is good. Our room was spacious with a nice bathroom with shower, bath, bidet, etc. The kitchenette was built into a cupboard and so cooking was impossible, but the refrigerator was handy as it was hot weather 24/25 deg C all week in early April! The room could have benefitted from more drawer space and the curtains/blackout need renewing and refitting. We had a south westerly room on the 6th floor and so early evening on our veranda watching the sunset was amazing. The only snag was the room faced the Tivoli Hotel, which was undergoing some further construction and the pile driver didn't stop until 11pm and the other construction started at 7:45am every morning! Also as the room was above the main entrance to the hotel late night revellers were a nuisance once or twice. As you will have read from other reviewers on this side of the hotel there is an open air night club across the street, which fortunately for us was closed in April but according to the notice it was open June, July and August in 2016 and is likely to be the same in 2017. Stay during the high season and this will be a major noise nuisance as they tend to play loud music until the early hours! If you do stay during these months ask for a room on the East side facing the Crown Plaza. Vilamoura Marina is great but I would describe it as having a mix of clientele. Fantastic restaurants not badly priced with a very good meal for 2 with wine and coffee for 68 euros. In the Marina we liked the 'Italia' but the ultimate was the 'Mayflower' where the quality, service, presentation and quantity of food was outstanding, which I would rate better than AA 2 rosette standard again for 65 euros as above. If you are looking for something cheaper head to Quarteira just along the prom from the hotel max 0.5mile. Lovely café in the centre of the town with 2 coffees and cake for less than 2 euros total. There is a fantastic fish market there and artisan shops as well. The little road train outside the hotel is good and offers a daily hop on and off for 6 euros per person. Check out the Vilamoura Old Village. Now the important bit: Do NOT be tempted to use the 'Ticket Shop.' There is a reason why it is cheap. We went on the trip to Cliff Richard's vineyard, which was very nice, but after the 1 hour tour and tasting we were dumped in Albufeira for 4 hours and then when we were picked up the minibus drove only to the office in Albufeira and then we had to wait another hour for other coaches to arrive only to have our minibus overloaded and the driver quite rightly refused to drive with people standing. Sitting just behind the driver I noticed the dash had every warning light lit ABS, ESP and so clearly the bus had not been serviced in sometime. The minibus struggled to go up hill and to stop and the driver seemed very tired. Draw your own conclusion and I tried to cancel 2 further trips with them the next day and was charged 5 euros per person per ticket. I am sure this experience was not a one off and so you are warned!! Collapse
Mixed emotions on this one!

First things first, this is not a pretty hotel, I'm guessing it was built in the 70's ?? However it does have some good bits. The rooms are spacious and kept very clean by the lovely housekeeping staff, they are a little dated but comfy and the bathroom was large and well designed. We had an extra bed in our room for my 12 year old son and he only just fitted in it. If you like a sunny balcony be sure to ask for one and if you want a view you need to be on floor 5 or above, our room was 708 and had a great view over the marina and out to sea, we had the lovely evening sunshine. The rooms on the other side of the hotel seem very dark. On our first evening we were welcomed at reception and given our room keys, no offer of help with our luggage but never mind. We were told dinner had started and to come down when we had freshened up, we did and we were absolutely blown away by the meal, 3 a-la-carte courses, with delicious food and excellent service, even had a glass of free bubbly (delicious) and a very lovely pre-starter. Washed down with a very nice bottle of house wine (under €10) The second and third night were the same, delicious food, so nice that we had planned what we were going to order for the rest of the week with so much to choose from. So on night four we arrived for dinner to find the door locked! We were sent to the breakfast room where we were presented with a buffet, apparently this was normal and we had been upgraded the previous nights. The buffet was very disappointing and our lovely waiter was no where to be seen, a rather rude man told us this was the situation and basically tough. We ate out for the rest of the week! We were allowed to swap our evening meal for a lunch time snack by the pool so that's what we did. Breakfast was also a buffet and was a bit poor, bacon either undercooked or burnt to a crisp. Nice omelettes and eggs, but none of the food was particularly warm. Packaged yogurts and fruit etc, nothing terrible but certainly nothing to get excited about. The hotel pool is lovely but absolutely freezing cold! Lots of comfy sun beds and places to sit, again be aware of the sunny and shady sides of the pool If you love the sun you need to choose wisely. The hotel is in an excellent location and except for the one vile man in the restaurant the staff were a delight. We loved the lady who ran the pool bar, she was so friendly. In short for a reasonably priced week in the sun you could do a lot worse than here. Just think very carefully about half board if you are not a buffet fan. The resort is lovely and there are fabulous places to eat and drink. The beach is also beautiful and you can hire sunbeds and umbrellas for approx €8 per day. Collapse

Had a lovely 11 night break here. From the moment we walked into the hotel until we left all the staff members from all parts of the hotel were so pleasant and helpful. The hotel was spotless throughout. Although I would say that the room was perhaps dated it was spotless. We were bed and breakfast. The breakfast was more than adequate to meet all tastes. There was a lovely pool although we never used it but no matter what time of day we looked out it was never busy. We had a superior sea view on the 7th floor. The room had a kitchenette with full size fridge and cooker. Good WiFi reception throughout. If I was to fault one thing about the room it would be the twin beds pushed together. A double bed would have been so much nicer but that is the only fault I can comment on which is why I have given the room a 4 out of 5. Collapse
