This was our first stop on a ten day tour. We spent three nights at this hotel and found it to be very comfortable, very clean and very quiet. The breakfast buffet was amazing. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a stay in Debrovnik.

Location is 20 mins away from the main town centre and attractions. A very quite property and ideal to relax, unwind and watch sunsets without a care in the world. A No.6 bus for a 15 Kuna charge will pick up/drop off passengers just outside the hotel to the old city gate. One stop off of an hour or less is included in the fare. Ideal for visiting Tommy's supermarket on route for snacks or essentials. Wine is much cheaper than hotel prices too. Check timetables for early or late night bus services. We stayed for 3 nights as part of a Gate 1 tour group. Check-in was efficient with all rooms pre-allocated in advance to save time. The very tired and well used condition of accommodation proved disappointing. A full refurbishment is definitely needed. Room views come at a premium unfortunately, facing the opposite block had it's drawback. Sadly a major flaw with architectural design considering stunning views of the coastline and Islands. Housekeeping standards were excellent. All fittings and fixtures were in good working order, My only criticism from a hygiene perspective was the lack of mattress protectors on beds. The beverage making facility was a bonus. However 10 teas varieties and only 2 coffee sachets is a ridiculous balance including the powdered milk not seen in most 4 star hotels for 37 yrs! The dinner buffet bordered adequate. Quality of food products were good although the main dishes lacked flavour and imagination. Desserts and entrees again very ordinary. The Executive seriously needs to research current food trends and update menu structure in keeping with the 21st century. The wait staff also need to come online with customer service especially when most guests like wine or beer with a meal. Not once was this offered and I can't imagine why the concept of 'upselling' water to alternative beverages isn't encouraged by the F&B team. Breakfast buffets were extremely good. A wide choice from cooked to order through to breads cereal, fruits and dairy. The female breakfast Chef was an absolute star! Not only did she cook some great egg dishes but also loaded every plate with a great smile and personality too! The waitperson's were prompt and attentive removing plates and offering coffee. Outdoor facilities especially the pool area is extraordinarily spacious and well maintained. Great in the summer for kids or relax with a few drinks. For the more discerning customer, I recommend expectations are kept to a minimum and judge for yourself. Collapse

This hotel is served by Bus number 6 to the Pile gate of Dubrovnik, one way ticket from a ticking stand (TSK) is 12 Kuna but 15 on the bus. The dinner buffet is 190 Kuna, lots of variety with plenty of greens, had no room left for desserts and ice creams. As we were with Gate 1 group, there is a 40 Kuna discount. There are other hotels in this complex and beach clubs (not sandy but sand colored pea sized rocks), very deserted in the low season. Also walkable on the other side is the Eden restaurant, though there isn't much of any pedestrian walkways. All in all a good place to stay for visiting the old town (Grad) of Dubrovnik. We stayed here three nights with one full day in the old town and another day visiting Montenegro (Kotor). Collapse

We've visited Dubrovnik twice and stayed at the Valamar Lacroma both times. We wanted the best of both worlds - being able to venture into town and explore, but also sit by a quiet pool or beach. Valamar Lacoma's location (among some of the other hotels here also) on Babin-Kuk is perfect. The rooms are as you'd expect for a hotel like this. Most rooms won't blow you away, but they're very nice, the beds are comfortable and the bathrooms are clean. The hotel amenities are great - the outdoor and indoor pools are nicely designed and the staff are friendly and attentive. A good rule of thumb for visiting any country is to make an effort to speak the local language, even if it's just a 'hello, how are you?' etc - it's polite, but also the staff seem to appreciate the effort, and we found people across Dubrovnik seemed to open up a little more. The food is very good - there's lots on offer at breakfast and dinner. We normally went half-board and I'm glad we did. It's a great option to have if you're tired and just want to eat at the hotel, but it could become repetitive and the atmosphere is just busy. So, we were glad to be able to find local restaurants or eat in the old town. If you do eat at the hotel, we'd recommend grabbing a seat outside in the evening, as it's a lot less busy and quieter. If you're not a fan of wasps, then don't eat outside in the morning as there were loads! This isn't the fault of the hotel, but sometimes I felt food and drink could have been cleared away quicker to prevent the wasps hanging around. Overall, this hotel is brilliant. I suspect if you look on AirBnB you will find some real gems in Dubrovnik, but if you want a hotel you won't be disappointed with the Lacroma. We popped down to the President (the 5 star in the group) and didn't see anything that made us feel like we'd missed out. Our recommendation would be to save some money and go for the Lacroma in the Valamar group. Collapse
